To think I should have asked more questions?

I saw the paediatrician today to check out DS3's jaundice. He's 9 weeks old. Paed not worried, all fine on that front. But she has referred him to an ophthalmologist as she says he's not following objects.

Stupidly, and because DS2 has autism, I automatically began thinking that meant DS3 has it and didn't ask the paed what she thought might be wrong with his eyes.

DH and I have noticed DS3 doesn't look for us or follow things with his eyes. We are both worried now and feeling a bit sick at the thought something could be wrong. Our DS1 has a physical disability so we are already at capacity, physically and emotionally.

The paed has given us an open 6 month appointment so I could request to see her again, or just wait to see the ophthalmologist. But maybe there's nothing to worry about and she was just being cautious?

If anyone has any experience which might help put our minds at rest, could I ask you to share it with me?

I know you are right. I feel a bit frozen with fear about it - I want more info, but only if it's good news. I just wish I'd asked during the appointment and it'll probably be ages till the eye appointment comes through.

I'll ring tomorrow and see if I can get get hold of her. She was lovely and I don't think she'll mind.

I have no idea about what the paed might have been thinking but just wanted to tell you that my ds2 had exactly the same thing and was referred to be checked at 9 weeks due to not following or focussing. If turned out to be nothing and he was just slow to gain that skill. His eyes are perfect now at 6 years old. My ds1 has autism too and as a baby he could follow with his eyes but specifically looked away to avoid eye contact so quite different iyswim

if I was to go off instinct I'd say his eyes are most likely fine and he's still developing that skill as shamoy says.

I am trying and failing to keep relaxed about eye contact/autism as I know what will be will be.
