We were invited to dinner by a lovely couple and I got the dates mixed up it's tonight can't go as we haven't got a baby sitter she just sent me a. Text asking if we were coming I then said oh yes babysitter booked see you tomorrow , she must of been like wtf and gave me a ring

It's to night she said we can come tomorrow however I feel awful I apologised lots but really feel awful I know she's most likey gone loads of trouble

I don't know what to do

go tomorrow night and take a lovely bunch of flowers as well as whatever you were taking already.

Just take a big bunch of flowers with you and I am sure it will be fine

I have done a similar thing before, I felt horrible. I have also had friends do this to us, we actually were going to their house, turned up, no answer at the door, they had forgotten. I didn't feel at all upset/anoyed because I think we all make mistakes sometimes.

Could you buy them some flowers and drop them over with a little sorry note.

Well you've done all you can. It was a genuine mistake and you've grovelled an apology. If she is happy for you to come tomorrow I'd go and take some kind of gift to show how sorry/grateful you are that she's been understanding.

Its an honest mistake as she must have realised from speaking to you. Go tomorrow ,apologise profusely and then try to forget it.

It's only luck I haven't done this, and if it wasn't for a chance comment last night I would have turned up at the wrong place for a birthday party!! As others said, flowers, chocolate, laugh about it and double check next time

I was having a reunion about 5 years ago with five of my school friends (met for the first time 60 years ago) and their spouses one day and we all turned up except one (she lives abroad). We ate everything and had a good do but, looking at my e-mails because we wondered why one had not arrived, I found an e-mail that said she and her husband would be coming the next day. We are all over the South East from Devon to Kent. Everyone got together and reorganised it so I had a reunion two days running to accommodate the one who got the date wrong. We wanted to see her because she lives on the other side of the world and it was an opportunity not to be missed.

I'd still go...kids in pyjamas, stick them on sofa with an ipad.

Shit happens. Just take a nice gift (chocolates, flowers - not wine as that'll be assumed for drinking and you'd probably take that anyway?).

I'd be a bit irritated if it was a friend of mine, but I'd get over it pretty quickly as it's clearly a genuine accident.

If I was the friend & your DH was trying to belittle you tomorrow night he'd get very short shrift from me. Everyone makes mistakes. How would he like it if you spent ages rubbing something he'd done wrong in his face?

It sounds like your husband is the one with the problem - why does he feel the need to compound your embarrassment by adding his two penny worth?

And op, we've all done it. I clean forgot to turn up to a playdate the other week. Other mum was dead worried about us, thought we'd been in an accident or something
