I lent my carpet cleaner to another mum and it has come back broken. There is a hole in the rubber tubing which means that the spray goes all over the place. She has tried to hide it with gaffer tape round and round it. What should I do? In a sense if you lend something you know that there might be damage and I accept that, but feel irritated that she hasn't admitted to it. I can get a spare part for about £30, so do I pretend nothings happened or what?

Phone her. Tell her. Order the part. Give her the bill.

Just ask her why she had to put gaffer tape around it and when she tells you, tell her you've had to fork out £30.

I would ring her and ask her if she could replace the damaged part or at least go halves on it

Only1scoop · 29/03/2014 18:12

What Worra said.

Also....really bad form for her not to mention.

If that had been me, I would have told you the tubing was damaged and offered to pay for the repair/part. Unless it was actually damaged when you lent it to her and you hadn't realised.
