I'm Welsh, I like to pronounce every letter if possible, sometimes even twice just go get my money's worth out of a word.

On my list of shit to get worked up about & it's a long fucking list this isn't on there, sorry.

BumpNGrind · 21/03/2014 23:10

In my accent that would be what(pause)tever

Forgettable · 21/03/2014 23:10

Is it Eshtuary Inglish wot gets on yer nerves? Because lowland Scots drop a heap of Ts, too.

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/03/2014 23:15

There's loads of regional accents out there. Or should everybody be speaking RP?

ScarletLady02 · 21/03/2014 23:16

I'm very much of the thinking that proper English needs to be conserved....BUT colloquialisms are important...

I'm from Essex and I'm terrible sometimes when I speak...but I can talk "proper" and I write "proper"

Cuxibamba · 21/03/2014 23:17

It's just an accent. I've noticed a lot of people seem to judge Estuary and London accents as not being accents, but poor pronunciation, but dropping ts are a feature of LOADS of accents, across the UK. And say vv for th.

ScarletLady02 · 21/03/2014 23:18

My DH is totally cockney...so he speaks like a foreign language...when I first met him I didn't have a clue what he was going on about half the time.

"What's the lemon? I've had murders getting here, the sherbert was late and all I need now is a cup of Rosie down my Gregory"

icancount · 21/03/2014 23:18

I just think that if you're a tv / radio presenter you should pronounce your T's.

OP posts:
BumpNGrind · 21/03/2014 23:21

I think it says more about the lack of diversity of tv/radio presenters if you only hear people with those accents.

Milliband does it all the time. It really grates. I can't think about his policies because I'm too busy putting in his t's! There are some accents where it sort of fits, but with him it just sounds sloppy.

icancount · 21/03/2014 23:24

CBBC. and Radio 1 in the morning. That's what I'm par'iculary thinking' of.

icancount · 21/03/2014 23:27

you can still have an accent (I do), and pronounce your T's.

BumpNGrind · 21/03/2014 23:32

Let's not forget accents from other countries. It would be great to hear more Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh accents as well as different regions of England.

I do remember being amused by a friend of mine pointing out how do Northern people say the name of the band "The The"

Meant in the most lighthearted of ways of course

Onesleeptillwembley · 21/03/2014 23:38

Bumpngrind, you probably add letters in as well. Grin

I do indeed. Baby names are actually quite hard for me and DH because of how I add extra syllables and he doesn't. Think of the dolmio advert in a Welsh accent and you've kind of got it.

I love a good t as well. Beaut - ti- full

I LOVE the Welsh accent...I'm off to Wales in May to scatter my Mum's ashes. My Mum and Dad met and got married in South Wales.

BumpNGrind · 21/03/2014 23:48

ScarletLady, Ahh that's lovely. You're taking her to rest in her happy place. Thanks

ScarletLady02 · 21/03/2014 23:50

Yep, I'm not sure exactly where it is. Somewhere with lots of "llll"s

Grin

We did holiday a lot in South Wales
