But not really know where to start when it comes to meeting someone?

I'm lonely and I'm longing for some intimacy yet I can't imagine getting from here, to a relationship - it feels like a massive insurmountable step.

I had been single forever so tried on line dating. Met 1 guy and have been seeing him about a month. Not sure if it is serious or not and it is early days but even though I had a boring profile I still got plenty of messages and they weren't all crazy.

I had started to hate being single and it was lonely but dating brings its own problems like realising that it can be hard to trust someone and fitting around other commitments and being vulnerable.

Dating is hard, I know I need to try but I do find it really difficult as I don't feel connected to people at all online

I don't mind on line and phone conversations but I don't think you can tell if there is a connection until you meet in person. Dating is really hard!

What do you do socially, apart from online dating? Being single is nice! If you are lonely because you don't get much adult conversation, see what there is locally in the way of clubs, hobby groups etc that have a social element. Generally, the more niche or unusual the hobby, the nicer and more interesting the people you meet: very mundane hobbies tend to be a bit full of boring conformists who might make you feel bad about being single, whereas interesting hobbies attract people less obsessed with Noah's Ark style heteromonogamy.

I think you need to be happy and confident with yourself before committing to a relationship.

I don't want to seem smug here because after reading MN i know how a relationship can effect a person MH. , but when i met DH i was happy with myself and he was an addition to that not to make me happy.
