To be honest I think the reply was fine.

A hell of a lot on MN can be solved with a quick search. It's just that others want people to do it for them.

For the time it took for that person to post that question, they could have just as quickly googled it and found the answer themselves.

Depends. I get very tempted to post something sarcastic when someone creates a thread to ask a question on MN that could be easily googled.

It's not exactly laugh out loud but I don't think there is anything wrong with the response.

If it's because the person was too lazy to Google, I think the reply is fair enough.

the answer isn't rude. What is really rude and lazy is asking a question that you could find out the answer to by googling.

I once responded to one of these questions with a screenshot of me googling the same question, and the answer below. Too subtle for the original poster, who just said thanks....

I believe the correct response is "JFGI" - Just Fucking Google It.

Amusingly a friend once put that on FB in response to a question. Another friend came on sheepishly a few comments later admitting that she'd just had to Google "JFGI"

Thing is, if you google the price/details of a local service/attraction/whatever, you get the info you ask for - that's it.
If you ask on a decent local FB group (some are better than others of course) you get responses from people who have been there/done that, who can tell you if it's good/shit/etc, suggest alternatives, tell you how you can get a discount and all sorts of other useful stuff.

Same on MN, though not necessarily the local bit. It can also be faster than sorting through google results if you post at the right time and depending on what you're asking about.

No it wasn't me. And yes I think the person was actually looking for tips. She did get them in the end as another kind person suggested an alternative which was cheaper.
The person who replied with the response has rubbed me up the wrong way with a post before so maybe I am biased.

It depends on the question really. If it is the price she was looking for, she should have googled it herself. If she was looking for alternatives or tips from other people, she should have made that clear.

I hate that kind of sarcasm. If you are irritated by the question because someone is being lazy, why not ignore? They'll soon work out they can find the answer differently, or someone that wants to will say something nice and helpful, because they've got the time to.

While we're on the subject of internet things that annoy us, I hate it when people say - on MN - "Why did you have DC/more DC/a baby with this man if you knew he was like this?"
How fucking insensitive is that? Yes, we're all thinking it but why say it? It's not like the poster can go back in time and not get pregnant! Grrrr. Every time I see it it sets my teeth on edge..
