To think I may as wel smoke again...!?

Odaat · 19/03/2014 13:18

I haven't smoked for ages, now I have dd I just don feel right. I do occasionally if I am out as I do not drink (so it is my lil thing)
Lately I have piled on the pounds and miss my former slim frame - I am not fat , but I def no longer slim.

I just eat and eat and eat. I find it sooo hard not to eat junk (though dd eats well) I do eat healthy foods all the time but ruin it by eating cakes etc. sometimes I think I am eating all this crap I may as well bloody smoke as wen i smoke I eat much less, healthily and I am slim.
I know this is a pathetic problem and I know it may sound bonkers, but sometimes i just think I could smoke again, be thin and not eat junk. If be happier? I would never ever do it around dd mind you...the art of self desorption never ceases to amaze me! I need more Will power. I just hate not having something - be it food as a treat or a ciggy.
I am being an unreasonable fantasist i think...?! Damn....!

not going to slate you as I ruin my good efforts by eating Crap in between, less so now as I've been exercising more and everytime I reach for something Crap I think do I want to have done all that for nothing! but I do think your being a bit unrealistic, you can choose not to eat the Crap whereas if you smoke again you cannot chose the health problems that come with it. if that makes sense. wish you luck!

specialsubject · 19/03/2014 13:25

thin, smelly, poor and chance of being dead earlier?

or a reasonable size and none of the other things?

you know the answer. Stop eating rubbish and exercise some self-control. You have given up an addictive drug so you clearly have lots of that!

WooWooOwl · 19/03/2014 13:27

Don't do it. It has just been announced that tax on tobacco will be going up at 2% above inflation for the foreseeable future! it will cost you a fortune.

TheGreatHunt · 19/03/2014 13:32

Smoking makes you smell. You can't smell it but I can. It reeks.

Also makes your smoking fingers go yellow and your teeth minging.

You choose to eat the crap, so can you keep yourself busy at the usual snack/fag times to break the habit?

EvaTheOptimist · 19/03/2014 13:42

Odaat forget the smoking - you've done the hard work of giving up so leave it that way.

Eating crap and too much of it though, is a problem I knew well. The secret is that carbs are really addictive - they just make you want to eat more crap carbs. (eg, cakes, biscuits, toast...). The main things carbs do is increase the insulin in your blood. The job of insulin is to deposit more fat in your fat cells.

The mumsnet low-carb bootcamp way of eating came to my rescue. Eating low-carb but plenty of fat and protein means I'm not hungry, not craving carby food and also am slimmer than I've been in my adult life. (I've lost 46 pounds in the last 10 months). You can snack - with low-carb snacks. I found it wasn't that I had a willpower problem. It was the carbs.

I'd really recommend it and it would be a way healthier way of getting slim. Don't touch those fags!

Exercise! I've managed to stop smoking and lose weight, by beating cravings with exercise instead of food. Also the fitter you get & the better your breathing becomes, the more you realise how badly smoking effects your lung capacity.

I'm also fairly certain that statistically you're more likely to be a successful quitter if you take up exercise.

SybilRamkin · 19/03/2014 13:51

The particles from the smoke will remain on your clothing and your DD will breathe them in - studies have shown that even 'third-hand' smoke is harmful.

It really narks me when people who smoke then follow it up with 'but I don't smoke around my kids' - unless you shower and change your clothes after every cigarette you ARE exposing your DC to harmful chemicals (and you stink too). And I say this as an occasional smoker (without DC).

ilovesooty · 19/03/2014 14:15

I haven't smoked for 8 months. I took up vaping and I've lost weight since then.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/03/2014 15:57

OP... There are plenty of fat smokers around. It doesn't make you thin but it makes you smell, unhealthy and you'll feel guilt everytime you light up. It's not the done thing now and you've done so well to give up. Keep up that willpower for your daughter if you won't for you - she deserves to have you around.

FobblyWoof · 19/03/2014 16:04

If it helps I'm a former smoker, quit when I was expecting DD and I haven't looked back and I was fat when I smoked!

Odaat · 19/03/2014 18:02

Thankyou for all the kind feedback. Everytime the though crosses me mind I shall read over these comments. You are all right of course. I just have to fully accept that I am going to hve to find a new way to be thin!!

Yes, another vaper who has lost 15lb in 6 weeks. The sweet vape oil I use has killed the sweet tooth in me completely.

StarGazeyPond · 19/03/2014 18:58

Vaping is your answer, OP.

MistressDeeCee · 19/03/2014 19:06

I smoked for 26 years and the only thing that stopped me is vaping. I was a 'hand to mouth' smoker..if busy, concentrating hard, on the phone etc, I had to have cig in hand. Now its the vape stick. Its far cheaper and whilst no-one can guarantee its 100% safe at least you're not ingesting 4000 chemicals each time you vape.
