All the advice varies wildly :/
I bought one from tesco, which is advertised as for 12 months plus, but after reading around online there is no consistent advice.
At the moment she squiches a blanket together and rests her head on it.
Anyone?

I thought the advice was from 12 months. I've never heard/read otherwise. So no YANBU.

outtheothersidefinally · 16/03/2014 18:02

That's about when I started. And your DD obviously knows what she wants! Ikea also do a lovely one.

TheArmadillo · 16/03/2014 18:12

I did. If she wants it let her have it.

ilovepowerhoop · 16/03/2014 18:12

they are ok from age 1 and mine had them from then too

HadABadDay2014 · 16/03/2014 18:18

Mine has always had a pillow from a young age. I co slept with DS so he used to from around 5-6 months wiggle his way up.

FadBook · 16/03/2014 19:38

Same as hadabadday dd had one from 11 months and I remember reading up and not finding consistent advice.

As we'd co slept she was used to one. She disliked the toddler size one I brought and ended up with a normal one from about 12 months. She's loved it and we transitioned from the cot to cot bed by 18 months with a quilt too.

Waltonswatcher1 · 16/03/2014 19:53

My guess is that she squishes the blanket for comfort not neck support . I wouldn't use one personally - flat is better with a good condition mattresss . I have a raised cot for reflux though , maybe that helps .

Motherinlawsdung · 16/03/2014 19:55

She will be fine with a pillow at that age.

LouisaJF · 16/03/2014 19:57

We gave one to DS1 at 12 months and he loved it. That was the start of 15 hours sleep per night!

charlieandthechocolatecake · 16/03/2014 19:58

sorry ti hijack thread op...

DS is 18 months and he's never had a pillow.

is there an age when actually need one?

QueenofKelsingra · 16/03/2014 20:00

ds1 didn't have one until he moved to a bed at 2.2yrs. the DTs are 22m and don't have them. they sleep happily in their cot, in their sleeping bags so I see no need to introduce them at this stage. the DTs are still squiffling around the cot so I doubt they would keep their head on a pillow anyway.

12m is the advice but if they are happy without I don't see why you would introduce it? it is better for them to be without with a decent mattress.

ScarlettOHaraHamilton · 16/03/2014 20:00

I don't think they really need one at any young age. But we.introduced one at about 2 when DD started migrating a soft toy under her head.

QueenofKelsingra · 16/03/2014 20:01

Charlie if he is happy I would leave him be! DS1 didn't come out of the sleeping bag until he was 3yrs but he was happy so I didn't see why the need to change it.

Parliamo · 16/03/2014 20:04

One of mine had a pillow before 12 months. I found it helped with the endless snot and coughs etc. and discouraged her from rolling about too much.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/03/2014 20:09

We got a cotbed pillow and quilt from ikea when DS was probably about 18 months. To see if it would teach him to sleep at one end of the bed. It hasn't! But he loves his pillow and quilt and tells me about the pictures on them.

Purplepoodle · 16/03/2014 20:59

Dc3 has had a pillow for the last week (he is 11 months) it's was the only way he would sleep with a horrendous cold

DumSpiroSpero · 16/03/2014 21:23

DD had a v shaped pillow which was a bit easier to wedge into position so it stayed put where or was meant to be.

Prior to that I occasionally put a pillow underneath the mattress to angle it slightly if she had a cold.

FrancesHouseman · 16/03/2014 21:26

My DS had a pillow from younger than 12 months due to snot and cough issues. It was a regular sized one which was the same width as the cotbed and I put it under the fitted sheet to minimise risks of it getting moved around (it never did)

NaturalBaby · 16/03/2014 21:30

Mine all got one around that age - a very thin cot pillow from mothercare.

edwinbear · 16/03/2014 21:48

Both mine have had them from about 1yr and slept better for them. But try it for daytime naps first maybe and see how it goes? She sounds like she would appreciate one but you can always take it out again if it's not well received.

BobPatSamandIgglePiggle · 16/03/2014 21:55

Ds is 2 and doesnt have one - never thought about it!?? [Frets that I'm depriving him!?]

harriet247 · 16/03/2014 22:05

Thanks evrryone, she just seemed to be propping her head on everything to try and get comfy, she has reflux too so not sure if that has something to do with it. Have put it underneath the sheet so she cant flip it around/use it as a step ;) she seems very very content!

My DD has had a pillow from 9 months and a duvet from around 11. She was a co-sleeper too and was used to the pillow. It completely transformed her sleeping. She sleeps great now (from waking every 1-2 hours) and loves her cot.
