To think 2 weeks is loads of time to pack?

Am I? DH is having a freak out. We;re moving in two weeks....I've sorted out the office and toys....gone through a lot of books but nothing is packed...

I thought you meant for a holiday! We pack for our holidays the morning we leave and I was going to say YABU!

Seriously, I think you better make a start. We helped friends move once and the morning they moved out they hadn't even taken pictures off the walls yet!

Nah loads of time. We usually pack day before, move next day. Most stuff is being used so barely anything could be packed early

Depends if you work or not and how organised your house is. My mom is super organised and is a mean packer - two weeks is loads for her but not enough for me as I need to sort as I go.

We always pay for a packing service, so it's all done the day before. If it's stressing your husband out he might want to think about it.

(He could always start it himself if he's that worried.)

Depends if you have to sort before packing. I'd have nothing to sort as I hate clutter. DH on the other hand...

What a difficult question. Like one reply, ask yourself if you are always the one holding others up,(Maybe your DH knows what you can be like, that's why he's freaking!) or do you always get it done in time. Only you can answer this (like Blanch, I had a friend who was so disorganized that instead of helping her to just move boxes, I ended up not only going to source these boxes from various supermarkets, but packing nearly the whole house!). (not that I minded helping her). Also, are you a hoarder or live minimally. Have you moved a whole house yet or is this the first time? Don't underestimate the task. Good luck in your new home. x

that would be enough time for me to pack - but not enough time to do or the sorting and throwing out that would have to come first!

I did it in three, with no kids and without having to go out to work. And a LOT of decluttering had been done before.

I think you had better get weaving!

No it's not. I took 3 weeks and it was quite frankly traumatic!

Depends how much stuff you've got, how much spare time after work. I'd have started.

I think I started the week before we were supposed to move. We were then held up by the chain for a week and were completely fed up of living in a packed up house by the time we moved the week after the original date. We don't have much clutter anyway, but I think the longer you give yourself the longer it will take. If you leave it until the week before, it might get a bit stressy, but it will all still be packed. I moved all dc into one room and out all packed boxes into one bedroom. Make sure you label all boxes too.

I work four full days and have 3dc and two weeks was enough. Actually one week would have been enough if I'd not been so laid back about it all. Have you started sourcing boxes/ tape etc, if not, that may hold you up completely.

We have a lot of "stuff" but not a lot of furniture. I can have a room a day done I reckon...and then leave out the essentials. I am packing books now....I've chucked loads for charity...I am still chilled.

I'd probably start a couple of weeks before, decluttering. Go through all wardrobes/drawers/cupboard/attic and bin the junk, get rid of old clothes and have a sort out.

Actual packing though...if your house is organised, I can't imagine it would take more than a couple of days.

2 weeks would be nowhere near enough here, but we both work and have accumulated loads of 'stuff' as a family of 5.

Get in the packers - best £300 we ever spent.

We don't pack. Last time we moved we went for lunch in the country and rocked up at the new house as the truck arrived to unload. Thank god for professional packing services!

Yy to packers. Totally worth it. You can live normally until they start. They have the right materials and plenty of boxes and insurance.

The one time we did move ourselves I packed a kettle full of water, so for us it definitely makes sense to pay someone else to do it.

Now if only we'd paid for the unpacking at this end we wouldn't still have things in boxes almost a year down the line.

If just packing (as opposed to sorting) most houses can be done in a day.

I usually start sorting 2/3 weeks earlier, but the actual packing comes much later.
