To think they should refund me the p+p?

I know this might seem petty but it's more the principle of it rather than the actual amount.

I bought a load of items from the sale seller on eBay, all with £2.50 postage. I asked for combined postage and she charged me £5 to post the lot - great!

The package arrived and the whole thing had only cost £2.50 to post.

I asked her for the other £2.50 back that I paid her for postage that she didn't spend and she said no she had already given me a reduction!

She is missing the point that if I pay £5 for postage I expect it to be posted at that value and arrive quickly, not take ages to arrive 2nd class for half the price I paid.

It's £2.50! And you forgot about packaging. FFS, this is why I haven't bothered selling on Ebay anymore. Too many pisstakers getting bent out of shape over a quid or two and not realising there's packaging as well.

YABU. As stated in your title you're paying for P and P, not postage alone. Packing for "a load of items" may well cost more than £2.50

Think you should have agreed the postage before paying. Postage will cover the packaging aswell and some sellers include costs such as fuel to the post office. If you asked what the postage would be prior to paying then if you didn't like it you could have voted with your feet and not bought from her

It's postage, packaging, and time going to the Post Office. Do you expect her to do ALL that for free?

The £5 won't just apply to the cost of posting the parcel, it will also include the packaging and any fuel etc that the seller incurred posting the parcel. Standard ebay practice. YABU.

eBay now take a percentage of postage, so although it may cost £2.50 she will have to pay a percentage of that.

Additionally you knew the cost of postage before she sent it, you could not have ordered it if you didn't like the price, so I don't think you can make a fuss

I sell things on line and am constantly amazed when people complain that the postage was less than my P+P charges. No shit Sherlock!

of the £5 ebay will take 50p as commission, paypal 17p, (i'm ignoring the extra 20p paypal charge as that would have been on item not postage) postage would have been £2.60 (RM 2nd class Small parcel is 2.60 not 2.50) so that is £3.27 ( so 1.73 to cover packaging which is probably too much unless breakable and requiring lots of bubble wrap)

if seller was a private seller she can't add in petrol, time or parking costs (business sellers can) but she can add in mailing bags, boxes, bubble wrap packing peanuts if required labels sellotape

technically ebay paypal fees charged on postage should come out of item profit not postage and packing charge which was fair enough when ebay did not charge commission on postage but slightly less fair now

I think you did ok as loads of items not just 2 items provided she dispatched on time you can't complain at 2nd class when that is what you paid for , I guess initially both you and her thought it fair to be charged postage for 2 when you bought loads

YABU you accept postage as part of the deal. Doesn't matter if under/over.

you accept P&P as part of the deal on the basis it is reasonable and seller has weighed it etc, you can't know for sure it is right before it arrives that is why it is reasonable to leave 2 stars for P&P if you were charged £5 for postage and you thought it was coming with collectplus at £4.80 and you then find it arrives royal mail in large envelope with £1.90 on stamp
so £5 would have been 5 reasonable and fair if actually cost £4.50 upwards to post but completely unreasonable and 1if charged £5 and cost £2
