At husband and his clothes fetish

Ok, don't get excited - it's not about rubber mankinis or such. But, we are moving soon to a smaller house with less storage and I'm trying to get rid as much stuff as I can. I think husband has far too many clothes, he complains as it is that he feels hard done by at what he sees as his lack of wardrobe space or drawers. So did a quick inventory and

26 pairs sports socks
25 pairs work socks
27 pairs pants
37 t shirts
8 smart jumpers
9 hoodies
10 jackets
35 work shirts
6 dress shrts
7 suits
17 sports tops
15 sports shorts
10 Football jerseys
20 pairs trainers

This is a conservative list and not included works shoes, boots, jeans, shorts etc.

AIBU I wrong to think this is excessive?

Have you counted your stuff?

I personally think that's far too many clothes but then I only have three pairs of well fitting jeans (I have some terribly fitting ones that I use for decorating / gardening etc). I don't think I can comment because I don't think I have enough clothes (but only because I want to buy more!!!)

As the owner of 26 bras and 52 pairs of pants, that doesn't seem too excessive.

Apart from the trainers. Nobody needs 20 pairs of trainers.

DH owns:

2 pairs jeans (1 smart, 1 every day)
1 pair tracksuit bottoms (decent ones)
4 polo shirts
2 sports tops
1 plain Tshirt
1 hoodie
1 coat
1 pair shorts
1 smart white shirt
1 smart grey shirt
Suit bottoms
1 pair trainers
1 pair smart shoes
1 pair football boots

He doesn't think he needs anymore clothes

True, I perhaps need to count my clothes. Least I'm chucking stuff out. He brought a t shirt to the pile, looked at it with pain in his eyes then took it back again!

Is he like my DH, feels the need To have lot's of clothes because his parents didn't have money for buying new clothes for all of them? Did he have hand-me-downs, or if he's the eledest, clothes 2 sizes too big for him To grow into?

I don't look in my DH's warbrode it's a scary place but I would hazard a guess that he has moré than your DH because he almost never gets rid of anything and every gap is filled.

In fact, we're trying To sell and viewers and EA's all comment on the "his and his" wardrobe. It's walk-in and open plan so he can't hide the amount of space he takes up.

I can't comment as I have over 200 pairs of shoes and about 60 bra and knickers sets (each bra has 2 pairs of knickers). And my jeans probably count into the 50's...

Actually, he was quite poor growing up. Maybe there's something to that. He's more of a luxury spender than me.

YANBU I struggle to get my DP to buy clothes! He didn't even buy a coat all winter!!

If his clothes habit is not causing you any financial difficulties YABU to complain. My DP and I don't have that many clothes combined, no where near but, if he likes owning clothes, where's the harm?

He's got a lot compared with my Dh.

I can't understand why he'd need 35 work shirts. Dh has 8.
We did have a cull and anything he hadn't worn for 3 months he got rid of or put in a storage bag in the spare room.

Dancing I think there is, at least for my DH and me. Neither family had much and whereas he needs To possess many nice things I tend To think

"hmm, do I really need moré than 2 pairs of jeans?"

I do have a thing for nice bras though, which I hand wash To make them last a looooooong time, so that I can justify the expense in my head.

How often does the washing get done?! Joking aside...could you fit more in the cupboards if the space is well organized, making use of every nook and cranny? Perhaps that could be a DIY job for him :)

If you really want to dump the extra clothes, try making note of which clothes he wears most often. I bet 80% of it barely gets used. Put the least used clothes in a box in the garage for a few months. If he doesn't open it after a year, he might realize he actually doesn't need it after all. But in the mean time, he knows that it's there if he needs it.

I've probably got the equivalent of that many clothes, and I'd be livid if my DH tried to make me ditch them. He's a grown adult, not a hording three year old. Unless some of them have holes in, dont' fit, or are terribly stained then let him lie - but finding a storage solution is his problem.

He can afford them and they are all good condition, good quality stuff. It's the storage and the fact he's already complaining at the moment when we are in a mahooosive house - how he thinks they will fit not a smaller house - I've no idea! He already uses 2 doubles and a single wardrobe and a big chest of drawers.

Just wanted to know if anyone else's husband had this amount of clothes.

Does the new house have an attic? New bed with storage drawers? Vacuum packs can be v useful for out of season clothes. But basically, his collection, he should find the solution.
