who started this thing that I hsould pay for more than comfortable boys to go on a trip with no other, say charitable, value at all?

if you want to go on a trip, then pay for it, dont expect us to!

and, in what way?

My dc, at various times have done fundraising to subsidise the cost of Scout trips, and the people the money has come from have always been given something in return - be that cake (cake sale), work (all sorts of jobs done), a lovely meal we've prepared, or an evening out (quiz, disco, barn dance, etc.) - are those the sort of things you are objecting to or is someone actually just asking you to give them money for no return ?

Oh is this the packing your bag in the supermarket thing.

I get fed up with that, especially when I asked a girl who was packing for me, where she was going and she told me she was just doing it for her brother as he was still in bed.

"Girls aren't allowed to play rugby in my school", she told me.

Sod that four a game of soldiers.

scout trips - is cool because you HAVE to raise half of it, dont you? For the Jamboree?

Well - the Jamboree, you have to raise it all, but a lot of groups try to subsidise the cost for any trips.... and, to also get the young people to understand that this trip is a privilege that they have to put in some work to earn the money for it to go ahead.... I think that understanding is a good thing for children and young people to understand.

If there are people bag packing that you think are too privileged to be allowed to work for their holiday/camp/tour/trip, then you only have to say 'no thanks' when they ask if you want your bags packed. Lots of people do, it's not an issue.

You are confusing me now - do you mean you are asked to fundraise for a tour that your dc isn't going on ?

I don't have a problem with it. I'd rather children put some effort in to work/fundraise for things than just have it all handed to them.
