Scary, scary glue sticks....

DW picked up glue sticks at Sainsbury yesterday (own brand Pritt stick sort of thing). I just came across the receipt and they're age restricted (although the sticks themselves only say they're not suitable for under 36 months).

I've heard of glue sniffing but can people die from sniffing glue sticks? Or are Sainsbos worried about some other obscure danger I haven't considered?

I'd presume that they have age restrictions on all glue, even the PVA peel off your hands type and the sticks, as it's easier that having someone work out which need the restriction putting on them.

Maybe it's something to do with solvent based products where the law hasn't been changed yet?

Maybe to stop children licking them. We used to love glue time at school because we used to eat the glue it was actually quite tasty.

We used to get PVA glue and paint it over our hands, let it dry and then peel it off so it looked like burnt skin. I taught my dd the same the other day, but she thought it was dangerous and silly and it hurt. She ran off and washed her hands . Kids nowadays don't know how to have fun if you ask me.

BigRedBall yes, that too! So much fun. Did you have these roller glues? They were perfect for rolling glue all over your hands and arms then could peel it off later when bored in lessons!

I don't think it ius glue sniffing that is the concern, motte the lid us a choking hazard which normally means things were labelled not suitable for under threes.

The column of glue is a choke hazard - as the stick wears down to a nubbin it's easily dislodged

Ooh, I do remember the lovely Marvin glue at school, but that wasn't as good as the fresh banda sheets.

DD 11 tried to buy some false nails in Claire's and the assistant refused because they came with a 2ml tube of glue [ hmm ]

RunRunRuby We had those! But I only used the PVA glue in a Cup with glue spreaders for the "burn" effect

Lots if products are not suitable for under 3.

Glue lid could be swallowed and they could choke. The wind up bit could break. And they might eat it and choke.
Lots if different ways I suspect it's not a chemical/solvent thing.

Sorry I've just reread my OP and realised I wasn't clear.
The receipt for the glue sticks my DW bought stated that they don't sell them to under 18s and that's what I'm boggling at.
The under 3 restriction on the sticks themselves makes perfect sense.

Perhaps the rule is applied to all glues and meant to prevent vandalism with crazy glue and other more permanent adhesives. Locally, people have squirted glue into door locks and such.

Glue sticks don't work that well even to glue bits of paper together.

I used to eat Pritt Sticks when I was 8/9. Never did me any harm, promise.

No, but they can take some bloody funny decisions about their weddings.

My mum once thought I was sniffing glue & taking drugs when she went into my room & found Gloy glue, a pritt stick and some Smints.
