Only 4% of adults give blood, which is a shocking number.

I understand not every one can for their own reasons.

Please give of you can.

I'm on the reject pile but I agree; it would be good if more people who could, did.

Oddboots not going ask ask why, because it's none of my business.

However it highlights that not every one can and those who can should consider doing so.

I always feel so guilty that I can't give blood, especially since having a transfusion. Always wanted to do it but when I turned up to donate they literally couldn't get any out of my veins so sent me away. Now I can't even try again.

I give 3-4 times a year

me, dh and dss do. both dds anaemic do not able but hope to.

really wish more people would as it's so easy and a real feel good factor.

I did donate for year, 25 donations if I remember rightly but then I was a host surrogate and they don't let you if you have had IVF using another woman's egg. I'm still on the organ donor register and the bone marrow register, I haven't checked to see if I am still acceptable to them, I don't really want to know as it would really upset me if I'm not.

My dh gives still though and ds wants to in a couple of year. My dad gives platelets every few weeks.

Don't feel guilty if you are not able to.

I wish I could thank the person who saved my nieces life almost 16 years ago with out that blood she would of died. She was born 9 weeks premature.

Oddboots, it amazes me how a women can carry a baby for another women.

I would if I could. There have been various reasons why not over the years, like time since having tattoo etc., but I've always been too small to do it. There is a minimum weight. I don't see why they can't just take half a pint from the pint sized people, surely that would be better than nothing? Am about to get another tattoo anyway, so that'll keep me off the list again anyway.

One of my friends was banned for his sexuality. He got it overturned somehow, I don't know what he wrote in the letter but he's now legally allowed to do it so, there are ways if sexuality is holding anyone back.

I wish there was a mobile blood donating van in every supermarket on a Saturday.

To my knowledge donations run Monday till Friday, if there was a weekend service then more people could donate.

DH and I are in competition with each other to see who can give the most. He overtook me while I was pregnant with and then breastfeeding DS grrrr.

It's the only time I get to lie down without DS jumping on me and I get tea and chocolate biscuits too so I actually look forward to it.

I am not good with blood, needles etc and so always chickened out of giving blood in the past. Then I needed two platelet transfusions just before my son was born to save both of our lives. I am not allowed to give blood now because of having the transfusions and I wish I had been braver when I was younger and given blood when I could. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who is generous to give blood.

I have done for years, but it's harder now that they've cut back on small local donation places. Also timings have changed to afternoons, which makes it hard when they open at 2pm and school run is at 3.15pm.
DS is old enough to come with me and sit still at 7yrs, so I will try again.

Last time I donated - just before Christmas, I couldn't book a suitable time slot, so I chanced it and went as a walk in. The reception nurse implied that they are so well attended that they didn't need to increase availability for donations.

I am liking these examples. It shows how important blood donations are.

I donated for years and years, I am 0 negative so I got called back to donate extra. I had a blood transfusion last year so I can no longer donate. Well done to all of you who donate, I wish I still could.

where I donate blood we get Kettle Crisps and Twix Bars - more than worth it in my book!

I used to do it at a mobile van at work but I left that job 4 years ago now. I am now a student nurse and the hours I work and the fact we don't have them at the hospital (go figure!) makes it much harder. I have tried though. Honest.

I always post on these threads to thank those who give blood. I had ds1 at 26 weeks following a car crash, I had my second son at 24 weeks due to continued complications. We all nearly died, between us we had dozens of blood transfusions so if you donate blood you quite literally saved us and I am very grateful.

I'm a+ so not like I'm really really desperately needed anyway.
