The link is to the Daily Mail. But OMG. 5 yrs for two violent premeditated attempted rapes and horrendous acts committed (bleach poured on one of the victims). What on earth is wrong with our sentencing system? Why are such attacks against women not properly punished?

AIBU to be absolutely sickened in feeling that the lenient punishment does not fit the crime?

I honestly don't know. If the sentence could end up being less than 5 years with 'good behaviour' than that is even worse . The victims must be absolutely devastated. The attacks were obviously horrendously life changing but the lack of clear punishment is just another league of awful to heap on top.

5 years 8 months is shockingly short. He would have got a small 'discount' for pleading guilty. He will be out in less than 3 years, good behaviour or not.

He'll serve half of the sentence in custody and the other half on licence.

If he re-offends or breaks any of his licence conditions during that time, he'll be recalled to prison to serve the rest of the sentence in custody.

So basically, a man who decides he quite fancies raping and torturing women can weigh up the three years in prison he could get against getting to actually fulfil his fantasies and decide to try it. Three years is nothing.
