AIBU to wonder what these men are thinking?

I've been 'added' on facebook by two men who are newish partners of people. One was a year or so ago, another was today.

Their partners are my colleagues, but I do not socialise with them outside of work. I hardly know them both these women, as we work in different departments (but do the same job).

What are these men thinking of? If my DP did this, I would be incredibly embarrassed and concerned that he thought this was okay?!

Does anyone have any insight in to why they have done this? These are men in their 40's by the way!

I've just noticed, todays guy has added the vast majority of my colleagues . We now have 17 mutual friends.

So clearly my colleagues have accepted the friendship requests.

It took some digging to work out who this man was by the way. I only realised when I found a picture of my colleague when looking through his pictures.

It's not odd, it's just the way Facebook seems to work. You're friends with someone and their friends are prompted to add you as a friend etc... Maybe these people don't have many mates of their own?

Some people just use Facebook to invite everyone they've ever breathed next to, racking up the highest number of 'friends'.

Admittedly they're usually 12, but maybe these men are a bit clueless.

Or they're crazy jealous types who insist on adding all of their girlfriends' friends to keep an eye on what she gets up to.

Just ignore them, no need to add.

Personally, I'd drop the friend requests and forget about it.

When you start having colleagues on FB that's when it gets messy.

I have a 'no colleagues' rule on my FB account.

I don't think it's anything sinister: maybe these men want to be more involved in the work works of their DP'S life and know people by name..and also check out the men who might be around their DP! Some people just want loads of fb friends and don't care if they hardly know them.

I don't accept randoms on my FB, only people I actually know well/have known well at some point in my life. For some people it's a numbers thing. They seem to have in excess of a 1000 friends!

I think it's weird.

I have several MN friends on FB; people whom I have had lots of exchange with in the years I've been on here.
Sometimes, friend of theirs try and add me too - and we may have 18+ mutual friends - but if I don't "know" them (inasmuch as one can on here!) then I don't add.
Weirder - a relative of an MNer, with whom I have no other "in common" friends, tried to add me the other day! That didn't work either.

I don't accept friends of RL friends either, unless I at least have a passing acquaintance with them!

You might be right though Cogito in that they just go through the 'suggested friends' bit. I'm now as to why all my colleagues have accepted his requests!
