To wish that pull ups/ pj pants were cheaper

Bedwettimg runs in my family and 3 of my DC need to wear night nappies. The problem is that my elder two don't fit the 'normal nappies' any more so I have to buy the expensive drynites or underjams. It just annoys me how much of my weekly shopping budget goes on nappies when all my children ages 6, 8, 10, 13.

My 6yo is in night time pull ups and that's expensive enough so I feel your pain. I'm getting them from amazon at the moment. £5 something for four packs of ten.

Have you seen your GP? I think (but could be wrong and happy to be corrected) that if you're referred to an eneuresis clinic you can get products on prescription.

They are often not supplied unless you need nappies day and night.

I have asked my GP about free nappies and their is nothing available to us. We can have a free alarm, but it doesn't work with mine. I have never thought of amazon, that does seem cheaper.

YANBU. My DD (4) wears them and they cost a fortune. Asda were doing a really good deal on the Huggies ones, so check of they still are and stock up. I also find that they still leak every now and then, whereas nappies didn't.

It is an outrage, especially as I agree with KellyElly that they are not even as good as the cheap supermarket own brand nappies DD was wearing previously. I get Huggies from Amazon on the subscribe and save scheme, and they are 7.20 for 30, which is as cheap as I have seen anywhere although I am going to check since Gwendoline seems to be getting a better deal!!

1stMrsF It's really annoying isn't it! I've had to stop drinks after around 6pm otherwise they leak through. DD's are still saturated so no point in trying knickers yet as the hormone obviously hasn't kicked in yet.

My dd wears the age 8-15 ones and we're amazon prime members, we order them in subscribe and save and they work out about £2.70 a pack.

I thought if there were medical reasons, youd get them on prescription? Especially asvyou need bigger sizes? Assume the kids are seeing a doctor for these issues anyway?

Have you tried:

• upping water intake in the day. Increasing bladder size in the day, means it can naturally hold more at night

• getting them to wee before doing teeth and pjs on, then wee again

• getting older ones to set an alarm and wake up at say midnight to go to toilet

I am so grateful that my kids are small for age & the worst wetter (until past 7!) was willing to wear cloth (Motherease Bedwetters). I reckoned that £66 spent on them paid for itself within 3 months. And then I sold them on, so even more money saved.

I agree, I have a DS who has autism and still is not dry at night but no help getting pull ups from NHS, they only supply nappies for day time wetting (DS is fine during the day). I used to buy pyjama pants in bulk when on offer, but it was still expensive. We tried all the suggestions about changing fluid intake, alarms and daily charts. Eventually our GP prescribed desmopressin, and this keeps him dry thankfully and doesn't cost us anything.

I had this problem too.. and decided to try a bed wetting alarm. I was a bit skeptical but it did work. It took 3 weeks to get DD dry at night and realised that when the alarm did go off in the night and we took her to the toilet she was completely asleep and totally unaware what she was doing. Almost like she was sleep walking.
It is hard work, I can't guarantee it works for all children but it paid for itself in about a month. You can buy them on ebay - and now there are wireless ones which seem to be more expensive than I paid (around the 20 quid mark)

Have you spoken to your GP?

DS wears Tena nappies at night which we get from NHS supplies. They are not great, but I find if I change him before I go bed they do last all night without leaks.

My ds2 is 3 and wears pull ups at night...there is loads of room though, they'd easily also fit my (big) 6 year old if necessary.

I buy Tesco's white packet cheap ones. They're something like £1.50 for 20. I only bought them once when I nipped into Tesco and found i had 2 quid in my purse and no debit card...fully intended on using one that night and chucking the rest.

They are exactly the same as the pampers ones I used to waste pay a fortune on when ds1 was at his age, except white instead of patterned. I could kick myself when I think of all the money I wasted over the years on expensive nappy and pull up brands!

Artandco yes I have tried all of those, weeing twice before bed helps a lot, as does increasing the water intake but alarms we have tried and they just sleep threw them or get a bad night sleep. At least wearing pull ups their getting a full sleep so they are in a good mood for school.
My 6 year old is also very small so I use normal nappies on him to cut the cost. Im so thankful that he doesn't mined. The nappy is full by the time I go to bed so I also have to change him in the night otherwise his nappy leaks.

My brother was prescribed medication for night bedwetting when he was 11 & he was dry within 3 months. Day time wasn't a problem but nights were, night bedwetting runs in the family like yours too.

Try the Lidl & Tesco pullups as they are quite good & not as expensive as the market brand leaders.

ynbu.. it seems it runs in our family too.. ds dad used to wet till he weas 12..

iv been put through to the clinic.. we where told to get rid of pull ups.
first month we upped and recorded his water intake.. the last two weeks where near enough dry.

then we had the free buzzer mat and he slept through it all, even on the highest most annoying sound right by his head! and hasnt had a dry night since.
i think its becasue he knows its there sub consionally? can i ask why it didnt work for you? its the worse hes been with it. even with pulls up he was having at least 2-3 dry nights a week. but now for the past 3 weeks hes been wet... which i jkust cant afford to keep washing the sheets and even duvet becasue of the postiion he sleeps in he gets that soaked to.

im expecting a call this week to see hwo we are getting on and im dreading it. im going to take the mat away and see if it works.

may have to put him back in pulls up.. i found tescos normally do a deal on them and stock up, though its handy at the mo he can still fit into normall pulls due to being so skinny.

im also hoping that the next stage is the tablets/spray. which i have heard really good things about!

have you tried going to your gp? there the ones who can recomend to the clinics. though a friedn got the soray from her gp directly. so deff worth a try!

Why on earth not use reusables, they can be customfit, go in with your other washing, save you a fortune and are much kinder to the planet.

Thanks very much firstmrs, my dd6 has ASD and is not night trained, ds2 wees a lot at night and drinks that only the pj pants (2of them) will do. It gets so expensive

Mamma my ds would wee right through them at night, he was during te day, and had to keep changing the reusables. So Noway will they hold night wees. You only use one in the night so it's not tat many!
