OOooo first I remember was a snowman in 2010 but there may have been earlier changes. Will see if anyone knows...

I like it but why is it a rainbow? genuinely just curious.

Strongly suspect it is a sign of support for our LGBT friends in Russia and a bit of an 'up yours Putin'. Well, that is how I have interpreted it anyway. It could just be a pretty logo change.
