AIBU to really not know what to put on the form?

And, yes, I've checked the guidance booklet.

My citizenship application form asks for my mother's place and country of birth.

She was born in Ostrava in 1941. Nowadays it's Czech Republic, but at the time of her birth it was Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, i.e. annexed by Germany.

So do I put Germany on the form, Czech Republic, or a lengthy explanatory note?

At a guess - Czech Republic

is there not a helpline you can phone?

WidowWadman · 10/02/2014 19:28

Haven't found a number yet other than the passport advice line, which obviously is for those in need of a passport, i.e. who already have citizenship.

There's an email address, but from experience they take weeks to answer, but I have to submit the form on Friday.

As you are filling in the form now you should put whatever the country is now.

wiki says Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic so I would put Czech Republic

WidowWadman · 10/02/2014 19:36

It makes sense, I just wasn't sure, as her nationality is German, not Czech.

I would put "Ostrava, Protectorate of Bohemia (now Czech Republic)"

I would put the same as tryharder says.
