To be pissed off with colleagues.

Am on maternity until may and col (A) resigned so col (B) decided she wanted thaat position. Fine. So I ask col (B) whos goinf to do col (B)'s job and basically me.... I got my job because col (c) went PT but she came back to cover my mat leave, Now it would seem col (C) is staying on FT in my position, theyve all arranged it between themselves. IM so angry. I dont mind the position im going back to but itz the principle of going behind my back and because others wanted to move around i am being moved.

Are they actually allowed to do that whilst you are on maternity leave??

all they have to do is offer you a job on the same money isnt it ? - Am sure they can do what they like otherwise ?

Yup same money. Its nit the job its the principle. Feel like i cant trust anyone.

Ask your line manager for a return to work plan, with maybe some face to face time or atleast a ohine concersation anout your return to work, remind them that your old job should be left open for you. Then stop contact with colleague B. If the role that you return to isnt the same as before then complain. Having this information from your colleagues isn't helping the situation, give the problem to your manager to deal with.

Have you heard this directly from your friends or have HR informed you of this new position?

I worked in HR before i was a SAHM, as far as i'm aware they have to have the same job (as technically you have never left/are still an employee) or if you ask for reduced hours, they can offer you an alternative which is on the same pay scale but the altered hours requested - ie they do not have to make your current job PT. But if you are going back same hours, then the job you go back to is the same - unless you have agreed otherwise. This may be wrong as it's been a while since i sorted this kind of thing out, so i would check. But i would be pissed off too.

We dont have HR. I am not going to speak to col b now about this. Im also pissed off because col (c) has no aspiration to do anything else, I need exp in my own position to go on to uni. Fuck this. Im going to ring my manager. I might just be hormonal but i feel like crying and finding another job where i am valued for whay i do not just a comodity. Cant trust fucking ANYBODY.

Surely they can do what they want while you are not there?
And while you are there, if you don't get your old job back, (or one at equivalent level you are happy with), then you complain?

I think yabu. You have not been to work for months and are not due back for a urgent four months. You can't expect people to sit around waiting for you to get back before they make any changes.

There is more to this but dont want to out myself. There is enough staff to have everything the same and col c do col bs job, and me go back to where i was. This is more a case of col c WANTS my job iyswim.

but technically you are still there. Maternity leave means you are still an equal employee. You should still be consulted about all changes ane kept up to date with what is happening. They wouldn't have to sit around waiting for OP to get back - they have mat cover to her return date. She isn't saying no one can do her job while she's on Mat leave, just they can't give it to the Mat leave person and then give her something else on her return. There is technically no vacancy apart from col b's job. They need to fill that, not move people around like pawns just because they don't happen to be present in the office.

Im on maternity leave currently and checked this type of stuff out before I left (because where I work are expanding whilst I am off and I wanted to make sure this had no negative consequence on my role for when I return)- legally they cannot just change the roles around to suit them without you being involved in any consultation.

Ah ty tiredemma. I feel a bit better for just posting and i suppose it IS 3 months away. A lot can change in 3 hours in that place.

I called nurse in charge and nothing is happening until its been discussed properly and all parties are ok.

so just chill out now and enjoy the rest of your maternity leave ( I go back in three weeks btw )

Ahh no, how long have you been away?
Until today i was mega excited to get back, so once all is sorted il be excited again.

I think if you go back within six months you're entitled to the same position, if later it's an equivalent position.

I went off on August 2nd. Had a lovely summer off with older children. DD was born on Sept 7th.

I am looking forwrad to getting back but have a really stressful job and just need to make sure that I dont bring that 'stress' home with me.

I have loved being off- especially over Xmas and New Year.
