My nickname says it all. DH once said my new shoes were just like me....you get the picture. I struggle with my weight and am currently 16 verging on 18. I am recovering from surgery (found mumsnetters to be v suportive thanks!) so just taking control of eating and exercise. In the meantime AIBU to ask where I should look for well cut and stylish tunic type tops which cover a multitude of sins? I am sick of white stuff and fatface but like the relaxed vibe. I keep seeing stylish and larger women wearing lovely tunics but don't know where to buy!

If I understand what you're saying, your DH said your new shoes were just like you and he meant 'pretty but clumpy'?

Would you say that's not the most supportive thing he could have said?

What's he like normally if you talk about feeling unhappy?

There's a style and somethingorother (beauty?) board on here, they know what they're doing clotheswise, you could try posting on there as well as on the relationships board

i just saw in a mag an ad for a swedish co, called gudrun something - seemed smocky/tunic like

it was ages ago, and I don't hold it against him! Zigzag, I am very happy in my relationship thanks, my DH has been extremely supportive through my surgery and recovery, and a recent cancer scare.

I didn't say anything about being unhappy.

I'll move my thread to the style board - I did search for fashion and clothes before I posted on here, but the results didn't direct me to style.

If you didn't have any tips on the tunics, perhaps you should have kept schtum?

Ignore my suspicious nature and inability to take anything even hinting at a criticism, DH couches things nicely without me prompting so it's not something I'd feel happy with him saying to me.

But I agree that the title seems to say if the OP wants to create a new her then she's not happy with the old her.

But then could that be more to do with distancing herself from the time when she's been ill rather than not being happy with her body/self esteem?

New Look and Dorothy Perkins do pretty and inexpensive dresses up to size 18 that you can wear with as tunics with leggings or as dresses with thick tights. Next and M&S Indigo range are other options.

Short flared skirts with thick tights / leggings and boots can look good too with nice fitted tops and small cardis.

Don't wear clothes that are too loose fitting or they can make you look bigger than you actually are; I recommend 'fit n flare' shapes to balance out your figure; thicker fabrics that skim over any larger bits while enhancing your curves; and darker colours / prints.

(I was a size 18, now a size 14).
