To think that ASDA owe my DD a new hob

LEMmingaround · 08/02/2014 19:32

My dd posted on facebook that she nearly burnt her flat down boiling a pan of water - cue loads of sarky comments, including a few from me :) Anuway, it turns out that the saucepan "melted" onto the hob, which i think is ceramic.

Saucepans shouldn't be melting! it wasn't a halogen hob so do you think we should persue this? I don't know all the details but it sounds to me like they should be replacing or repairing the hob if my DD can't get the paint stuff off?

ok, down grade that to replacement pans or a refund as she has just told me she has managed to get the stuff off the hob

mercibucket · 08/02/2014 19:34

did she boil it dry?

gamerchick · 08/02/2014 19:35

i would wanting to see the pan and hob myself.. in person.

SecretNutellaFix · 08/02/2014 19:35

Sounds like your dd wasn't keeping an eye on the pan and it boiled dry and was left unattended for quite some time.

Joules68 · 08/02/2014 19:37

Asda owe your dd nothing!

LEMmingaround · 08/02/2014 19:37

gamer??

merci - she said she didn't. She has posted a picture and it looks like the paint melted back to the metal - i think the issue is wast it suitable for the hob?

OP posts:
PenguinBear · 08/02/2014 19:38

More details and pictures needed to make a decision!

LEMmingaround · 08/02/2014 19:39

Joules68 to be fair, i think im begining to agree with you

OP posts:
lanbro · 08/02/2014 19:39

Surely it can't have been an actual saucepan.....maybe just the handle?

K999 · 08/02/2014 19:39

If the pan is dangerously faulty, she should make a claim against the manufacturer of the goods.

LEMmingaround · 08/02/2014 19:42

K999, apparently it is the retailer that you have the "contract" with so your claim goes to them.

She has posted a picture and its sort of one "corner" of the bottom of the pan that has come off - i suspect it was the wrong sort of pan for the hob. Blush

OP posts:
K999 · 08/02/2014 19:43

Not if the goods are dangerously faulty.

K999 · 08/02/2014 19:46

Asda may accept liability. If not, contact the manufacturer.

LEMmingaround · 08/02/2014 19:50

She says that she only boiled it for five minutes - i think cheapo saucepan on wrong hob - guess i'll have to buy her some decent pans!!

OP posts:
Caboodle · 08/02/2014 21:00

Take them back anyway - my DM used to work for Asda and she was permanently surprised at what returns they would accept and replace/ refund. Grin

arselikekylie · 08/02/2014 21:36

You can't use all types of pans on a ceramic hob unfortunately. That will most likely be the issue. Not a fault with the pan itself.

Maybe claim through house insurance?

BloodyMinecraft · 08/02/2014 21:40

ach, she used a pan unsuitable for her hob.

She needs to write that one off to experience and spend 5.99 on a new pan Smile

holidaysarenice · 09/02/2014 01:18

I have a ceramic hob, what can/cant be used on it?

MidniteScribbler · 09/02/2014 01:22

There's a reason why cheap pans are cheap.

ComposHat · 09/02/2014 01:45

This is a pleasant change
Op: Aibu?

Mumsnet jury: yes because your daughter used the wrong pan.

Op: okay fair enough.

This is a good thing and so very rarely happens.

SpagBolgs · 09/02/2014 01:53

Asda own your DD nothing! She should of been more careful checking it was the right saucepan and taking caution! Well that what you get if you buy a saucepan from Asda.

ComposHat · 09/02/2014 02:00

spagbogs take the story of the cheap asda pan and apply this same logic to your nanny/aupair/whatever situation.

If yoy pay bargain basement prices, don't be surprised when you get rubbish.

SpagBolgs · 09/02/2014 02:08

@ComposHat

Well I suggest you go and read my thread fully because you've missed out on crucial points.

ComposHat · 09/02/2014 02:21

I am fully up to speed with your thread spag the crucial points wouldn't be the perks like the water and the shower you offering as an act of grand munificence?

SpagBolgs · 09/02/2014 02:32

@ComposHat

I have increased her wage and reduced her hours.
