Out with some girlfriends tonight and it just so happened a few of our DPs were meeting up at the same time.

I was the only one, out of five, who did not get a running commentary of the evening via text every 30-60 mins or so.

Was my DP just having a good time and not boring me with info about the latest drink he'd had or doesn't he love me or wot?

Dp is still out btw. I'm only home because all my friends are bloody pregnant and therefore not joining me in copious alcohol consumption. End of an era

Some people like it, some people don't bother. Whatever works for you is fine .

You are both getting on with your evening out like adults. Occasional texting is fine but I don't see why someone's account of the evening has to be delivered minute by minute. Don't worry about it.

I wouldn't expect or want a running commentary, he could give me any highlights another time, if he remembers them.

But were the DPs 'checking in' because your friends were pregnant? So your friends they were a bit more controlling attentive?

You'll need to get a drink down you so you're up to the same speed as your DP won't you?

In fairness, when I was pregnant my husband probably texted me more a) because I was likely to be picking him up from whatever he was doing, what with being sober and cheaper than a taxi and b) to 'prove' that he was still sober in a touching attempt to sympathise with the fact that I would be either way. I rarely responded though, because I was always rooting around in my bag for antacids.

My DH and I wouldn't dream of acting like this...not least because we both hate mobile phones (although we do own them).

But I wouldn't give it another thought if I was out with people who do act like that. Each to their own and all that.

The only time this would aggravate me would be if constant texting back and forth, affected the conversation or the evening in any way.

But I doubt the odd text every 30-60 mins would affect it.

I have had friends like this, it's annoying. When I go out it is because I want to spend time with my friends, not to be surrounded by people constantly texting.

How the hell did people cope with nights out before mobile phones.

I have a friend like this. Went shopping with her for a few hours, and he called her FIVE times.
Once was because he couldn't find their DD's shoes .

To me, it's not a healthy relationship.
