We just do cards, nothing special to mark the day as it dilutes what we'd have to spend on our anniversary which isn't to much longer after.

For the anniversary, it's not gifts, it's quality time together that we relish.

A big fat 0 to all of them.

Fun for teens but over commercialised & a great hype for the rest.

A couple of hours together after DCs are in bed might be nice. That's rare for us.

Cards. Funny ones with very sentimental messages on. Dh always draws me a kitten/ dog/bunny in kisses.

And rather randomly he's getting me a giant mug as dippy dd broke mine and I need my pint of tea not woosy teeny mugs of tea.

Don't give or receive, DH and I prefer not to spend the cash. We'll have a snog at least though , maybe more.

We don't do Valentine's Day, it's a religious feast day hijacked for money.
I'd rather my DH made me feel special everyday with his behaviour than one day a year with cheap tat.

I'm a bit torn about it. I'm appalled at the cushioned card, overpriced red roses claptrap but I would be appalled not to receive something. Preferably a tasteful, heartfelt gesture and a message of undying love in a homemade card. Perhaps a book or lovely bowl of hyacinths or a good film for us to watch together. But I draw the line at sending a card or a gift.

I'd bloody love a box of Ferrero Rocher.

In fact I am getting a small bottle of cheap perfume that I bought myself and handed over to DH with the words "wrap this up for me" - we only bother because it's the anniversary of our first date so marks the long long years he's had to put up with me. I'll make the effort to cook his favourite meal (lasagne, he's not difficult to please) and then we'll spend the evening watching tv, with the DC who are too old to send to bed, and too young to send out.

Fuck all. Valentines day is a joke.

1st husband I received a card and a rose the 1st year I knew him. A few years down the line with nothing coming from his direction I asked him why he didn't bother after the full works the 1st year.
'Oh - my mum got them for you from me, she thought it would be a nice idea'.
And about 5 cards in 13 years from xh mkII.

It's probably fine if neither of you have ever bothered. But it must be disppointing if one year it is a big spongey card, champagne and lingerie and the next year it's nothing, or an inferior effort. That would be disappointing I think.

That's so sad. That's making me review my position of not giving on Valentine's Day.

DH is getting a card I found in Home Bargains for 59p, only because I didn't know what day it was on and thought he'd be away and we only bother if we're not going to see each other. Although I'm not sure why we bother even then, we just do. He's actually going to be home so I'm hoping he might cook something that involves salmon and possibly sweet chilli sauce.

We aren't going to be doing cards or anything. For us valentines day is just an excuse for a takeaway.

Ignore it as usual. Valentine's Day tat is the worst kind of tat...

Much happier with doing nice things for each other all year round and have honestly never felt the need to participate.

Pre-DC we used to do the full deal. Expensive meal, flowers etc. Now, I guess we'll be doing cards!

I think it's nice to mark the occasion with a passing nod (i.e. cards), but past that it means more to honour our anniversary, the fact we've survived past the early years of 2 DC etc.

Personally, I like Valentine's Day. It has it's place, but in the great scheme of things doesn't mean much. It's more of a place holder in the year, rather than a meaningful date.

We'll be doing cards, I hope to get some flowers and maybe chocolates, but I am going in for a section on 13th February so really don't care. I hate the commercialism tbh. I'll be giving DH a daughter so anything else will pale in comparison!

Nothing. We never bother with Valentine's Day at all. Neither of us are in to phony romantic schmaltz. As SlimJiminy said, I'd prefer that we do nice, thoughtful things for each other year round.

We will be having dinner with DP's sister, her DH and their children on the 14th, purely because it's the only night for weeks that we're all available. SIL is cooking, we'll have a few drinks, catch-up, with not a red rose or tacky card in site. They don't celebrate it at all either so it's perfect

we buy cards and usually one of us banishes the other from the kitchen and cooks a posh meal all presented nicely with candles etc. (except for the year DS1 wanted the kitchen to do same for his girlfriend) a bottle of wine and extra love but its not a massive thing, no presents just extra attention.
