How strange.

AnyCraic · 05/02/2014 15:19

It's very good, especially as the absences are unavoidable! To be clear, the school is less concerned about his well-being than they are about their attendance stats for OFSTED. That's pretty sad but it's true. Don't worry about it at all.

AdmiralData · 05/02/2014 15:20

My attendance at school was 36% at one point, nobody arrested my Mother. So 98.5% is bloody good tbh.

ScentedScandal · 05/02/2014 15:22

What did they say when you explained about the hospital appointments?

UriGeller · 05/02/2014 15:22

Uh-oh. Has he been going AWOL*?

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2014 15:24

Why were the hospital appointments counted as absences?

They normally count them as medical marks, don't they?

SlightlyTerrified · 05/02/2014 15:32

98.5% is less than 3 days in a whole school year. Is that what they are referring to?

lymiemum · 05/02/2014 15:35

uri
i checked online, all of the absence marks have been correct with the days missed. normally a morning or after lunch. never a full day.

OP posts:
lymiemum · 05/02/2014 15:35

oh, and yes, each time i have signed his diary and sent a copy of the hospital slip so they have known that it was for a medical reason.

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken · 05/02/2014 15:36

Mybae they have you confused with someone else? Confused

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2014 15:37

Did they leave a message or did you actually get to speak to them?

TheCuntOfPhilomena · 05/02/2014 15:37

Maybe they want to clone his immune system? 98.5% is very impressive!!! Please don't worry!

Facebaffle · 05/02/2014 15:39

What exactly were their concerns?

lymiemum · 05/02/2014 15:40

no, i spoke to them.
they said they were concered about how much time he was having off for his appointments and could i make them after school as his attendance was down to only 98.5%

OP posts:
missfliss · 05/02/2014 15:42

Shocked

lymiemum · 05/02/2014 15:43

yeah. me too. i basically in a polite way told them they were having a laugh.

OP posts:
AnyCraic · 05/02/2014 15:43

So they didn't even ask if he's ok or there's anything they need to be aware of, in order to support you and him? Shocking!

redspottydress · 05/02/2014 15:44

Sadly not shocked.

sonlypuppyfat · 05/02/2014 15:45

What's going on with schools just lately I thought we sent them to be educated and they act like they own them.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2014 15:45

Are they taking the view that he (for example) doesn't need a whole morning off for a 1hr appointment?

That's the only thing that might make sense.

lymiemum · 05/02/2014 15:48

no idea worral but if its a 10 am app he stays off in the morning but goes straight in after. if its a 11 he goes in for first lesson then straight back. if its a 2 pm one he leaves at 1.30, but i dont tell him to go back after. and so on.

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/02/2014 16:01

They probably just dont know there isnt an after school clinic. Surely once you explain that all will be well.

bigbluebus · 05/02/2014 16:07

So none of the staff ever have time off for appointments that can't be made after school then? Don't they realise that hospitals don't run clinics at times to suit patients.

MissBattleaxe · 05/02/2014 16:09

I think 98.5% attendance is excellent and they shouldn't nit pick. Bloody nerve of the school!

ScentedScandal · 05/02/2014 16:14

My dd has to have a small op and will need 2 days off soon. I hope no-one moans to me about it.

I'm not sure what a school could be driving at whinging about medical appts. They're a pain in the neck true, no-one wants to do them, but some things have to be done sometimes.

It's not like you're off enjoying yourself or even have a choice about going.Hmm

98.5% is very good.
