AIBU to call an illegal immigrant a liar?

A few months ago I put up a post about my an illegal immigrant my parents were arranging for me to marry. Advice on here led me to decide it was a bad idea to go through with the marriage and I told him the engagement was over. He is now my ex. See here for background: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a1917148-Dating-an-illegal-immigrant

Anyway, over New Year my parents invited him over a lot as a family friend. Me and my ex had an argument recently about me calling off the wedding plans. He thinks I am a liar for agreeing to marry him and then calling it off, telling me he 'does not like lies'. I was fuming because I am not a liar. I just changed my mind after seeing his true colours.

I told him he was the liar, not me, because he is living a lie as an illegal immigrant, working illegally and living under false pretences. He said I was unreasonable for calling him a liar as he said being an illegal immigrant doesn't mean he is a liar.

Was I unreasonable?

Report him to the police and have him arrested and deported.

EirikurNoromaour · 02/02/2014 15:15

He's a dick. It doesn't matter whether he thinks you're a liar because his opinion is irrelevant. Do you think your parents hope you will change your mind and marry him?

rockybalboa · 02/02/2014 15:18

What a knob. Report him to the police.

bodygoingsouth · 02/02/2014 15:18

what's with your parents?? report him to the police.

BuzzardBird · 02/02/2014 15:20

It doesn't matter what he thinks or what he calls you. He is irrelevant to you and your parents principles are questionable. Don't stand for it. Report him if you can do with without reprisal.

Oneglassandpuzzled · 02/02/2014 15:21

Report him. He does not sound like the kind of person we want in the country.

xtremeraverbaby · 02/02/2014 15:21

report him to immigration and give all info as to where hes living etc hopefully they'll kick him out and it wont be an issue for you any more...also will be point proved

YANBU - and well done for being strong.

You are quite right that arranging a marriage where the primary purpose is to get a legal status for a foreign-born spouse (rather than, you know, the two of you actually both wanting to marry each other) is completely illegal. You are perfectly correct to want nothing to do with this.

Read this web page and just in case, keep the phone number 0207 008 0151 (or 00442070080151 from outside the UK) either written down somewhere you are confident you can always find or, even better memorise it. If you are ever being put under serious pressure to do something like this, call the number and they can help you.

BuzzardBird · 02/02/2014 15:28

He is an illegal, he ruined his own life.

Cravey · 02/02/2014 15:32

I think you have done the right thing in reporting, also you need to have a chat with your parents. They should not be allowing this to happen.

falulahthecat · 02/02/2014 23:55

You should have reported him, you did the right thing, it's people like him that make it so hard for the people who come here legally to work - they get tarred with his brush. The very fact he's so unconcerned about him and his friends being illegal immigrants is enough to make me see red!
