To think that breastfeeding should not be law?

Just seen this and am informed that it is not a spoof, it is utterly, horribly, horrifically real.

I am very pro breastfeeding but also have a very strong belief that it is NEVER OK to take choice away.

This is not pro breastfeeding, it is anti women.

What do you expect from a country that treats of women as vehicles for breeding?

Confused

Wow, you are extremely dedicated to choice is you think it is NEVER OK to restrict them.

Making unreasonable demands of women and restricting their freedom doesn't seem at all surprising from UAE.

lolalotta · 31/01/2014 21:40

I BF, that is absolutely rediculous.

KatherineSwynford · 31/01/2014 21:44

YANBU

I ebf for 6 months and it was a battle! I cannot imagine being told to continue for 2 years when both DC went on a nursing strike constantly.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 31/01/2014 21:44

Well OK no I don't think you should have the choice to, for example, eat your own offspring or feed them arsenic. I thought the meaning was pretty clear TBH in the context.

That's ridiculous. Ridiculous and awful.

SmallSherryforMedicinal · 31/01/2014 21:50

Women in SA have FA choice about anything

NachoAddict · 31/01/2014 21:52

I am writing this with my 18mo son attached to my breast but I think that is,disgusting.

Some mums can't feed, be that for physical or emotional reasons. Some mums don't want to feed, some babies don't want to feed, at all never mind until two.

I just can't articulate how horrific it is that women are being forced to do this. There is so much pressure on new mums already and breastfeeding is hard. Yes its worthwhile and can be lovely but it can be so so tough at times too.

gobbin · 31/01/2014 22:38

Well my boy would've died if I'd lived there. He wouldn't feed, full stop. He was tube fed by day 3 as he wouldn't feed.

endlesstidying · 01/02/2014 12:36

Wow. I'm still feeding ds at 18 months but to be honest I've struggled to get this far and am now thinking about weaning him. Wonder how they're going to deal with providing wet nurses? That throws up a whole new set of problems. Not in favour of this at all.

I am a big fan of breastfeeding its true but there are all sorts of reasons women can not or choose not to do it and that should be respected

Iamavapernow · 01/02/2014 12:39

Of course YANBU.

No one would ever think this was a good idea except a country which seeks to control it's women.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 01/02/2014 14:58

Well my boy would've died if I'd lived there.

No he wouldn't. They would have force some other woman to feed him and you would have had no say in the matter.

It's not clear whether your husband would have been able to sue you for not feeding him. It depends on whether they blamed you for not trying hard enough.

Theodorous · 01/02/2014 15:56

There is already a thread

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 01/02/2014 15:59

Where Theo? I didn't see one.

I live in the UAE and can tell you for sure this is not true. Totally over exaggerated. They simply announced they would like to encourage breastfeeding until the age of 2 IF the mother wishes to do it and to remove the stigma of breastfeeding toddlers.

Shitehawke · 01/02/2014 16:45

I'd be up shit creek then, my boy self weaned pretty early....I couldnt get milk in him unless petit filous or the laughing cow had made it!

Slutbucket · 01/02/2014 16:52

Sunshine and shandy if this is true the it is a move forward. I fed my DS until he was two and I felt like some people thought I was a freak.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 01/02/2014 17:05

Other thread

mrsjay · 01/02/2014 17:07

I would imagine a lot of wet nurses will be employed or some babies will be seriously ill , but this is a state where women are not really thought that highly of bloody ridiculous and dangerous
