To think a 10 yr old is too young to watch Celeb Big Brother?

Not sure if this is really AIBU worthy - just wanted opinions, actually. I may BU or a bit judgy, not sure..

DH's friend has a 10 yr DD who has watched all of this year's CBB and he doesn't seem to think it's an issue. When DH showed surprise at this he commented that she loves reality tv and watches all the Made in Chelsea, Kardashian, etc stuff.
I know his DW has complained about him letting both kids watch age-inappropriate stuff but she doesn't exactly seem to be enforcing any rule about it (clearly).

AIBU to think this is a bit irresponsible?

We have watched all of it and there is no way we would let our DS watch it next year (he turns 10 this year) - the language alone makes it a no-no (though the Dad is known for swearing a lot around the kids) but also the content of some of the conversations and other antics, etc.

DH says the daughter's attitude is really bad, like a gobby teenager - I know that's common these days but surely letting them watch slebs and their inflated egos behaving appallingly is not going to help given how influential kids that age are....

Just wondering what other people's thoughts are?

YANBU

But IMO anyone who watches shite like CBB needs to get a life. It is just awful, all of it.

hudyerwheesht · 29/01/2014 10:59

I know, I know. I normally agree Alibaba, DH got me sucked in to it this year. Blush

Wouldn't have it on around the DC though, no way.

I'm too young to watch CBB - and I'm 49.....

IMHO it is a load of crap... as are all the other "celebrity-goes-a-bit-weepy-away-from-home" reality shows...

hudyerwheesht · 29/01/2014 11:13

I'm not asking if I am BU by watching it (I know I am Blush) - but whether or not I am BU by judging our friends for letting their 10 yr old watch it?

Genuinely intrigued to hear others' opinions.

Totally unsuitable in my opinion. Am also amazed that a 10 year old would want to watch it, mine would have been bored witless

Lemongrab · 29/01/2014 18:13

Yanbu.
I wouldn't let my 13 year old watch big brother. Completely unsuitable for a child. We don't/wouldn't watch it either.
All reality tv is utter, mind destroying trash (except maybe Come Dine with me Grin)

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2014 18:16

CBB is brilliant entertainment (it's the final tonight!) but my two (14 and 12) are not interested in the slightest.

i just hope the DC of the people in it aren't watching....

TimothyClaypoleLover · 29/01/2014 18:22

Totally unsuitable for a 10 year old in my opinion given the adult content and bad language in the current one.

InkleWinkle · 29/01/2014 18:22

Some years they could watch it but not this time I think!

I have the opposite issue - I feel far too OLD to be watching most of the shenanigans Grin

LetZygonsbeZygons · 29/01/2014 18:25

YANBU and I think luisas daughter and Lees kids have maybe watched their parents wonderful language and behaviour? don't know if that's true,

im cringing nat it too, as you say OP, its been a must see this series that's why its attracted so much attention, but for a young child to see all that? no.

hudyerwheesht · 29/01/2014 18:39

Thing is, they don't seem to consider 10 to be young, which seems to a common thing these days so I was starting to worry that I was being overly old fashioned or strict or something.

So many parents of kids (around that age or younger)we know have let them into the world of Facebook, reality tv, adult video games, owning mobile phones, etc and I want to yell "they are children! Wtf?!"

Yanbu

Alibaba yabu for being so arsey about what other people watch.

SpanishFly · 29/01/2014 18:43

Previous years may have been fine but this year has been shocking in many ways.
10yo kids are much older than they once were but it doesn't mean they're ready to watch Dappy licking Luisa's nipple, as if that's perfectly normal

ForalltheSaints · 29/01/2014 18:45

YANBU to ban it from the house in general. Totally unsuitable for a child of that age.

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2014 18:46

I laughed until I cried at one episode of it this year. the bondage party and Lionel Blair. Grin

ProfondoRosso · 29/01/2014 18:50

I love CBB but it has not been child friendly this year! Grin

It's been filth-tastic.

hudyerwheesht · 29/01/2014 19:00

That's what I said to DH, ie, maybe other years but this year? God no.
