It's totally unacceptable to expect a pregnant woman to drink a pint of lucozade at 7:30 am isn't it? I'm still choking it down and feel like I'm going to be sick.

It's rancid at the best of time but with morning sickness and acid reflux... It's a violation of my human rights surely? only joking...sort of

Yanbu. Bleugh!

Hope the test goes well.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 28/01/2014 08:15

Why are you drinking a pint of lucozade?

DelightedIAm · 28/01/2014 08:15

A pint of Lucozade, why that not water? I have had GTT and it not a pint they make you drink.

CoolaSchmoola · 28/01/2014 08:21

YANBU, it is a thoroughly unpleasant thing to have to drink a pint of. But it could be worse... In Germany they made me drink a carton of liquid glucose made up to a pint with warm water.

Lucozade is nasty but the taste of this stuff was beyond anything I have ever swallowed. I threw every mouthful back up into my mouth and had to swallow it twice. My mw told me if I'd been in the UK it would have been Lucozade, which I loathe. I would have swapped my DH for a pint of it at that point.

Hope your test comes back normal.

Apols for the multiple posts, phone had a tantrum.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 28/01/2014 08:26

I sympathise, I will have to do the same in a couple of weeks for the GTT test, wondering how I'm going to manage not to puke it up. Midwife gave me a bottle of the loathsome Lucozade and I've shoved it to the back of the fridge so I don't have to look at it!! Hope your test goes well Smile

ILiveInAPineappleCoveredInSnow · 28/01/2014 08:26

When I had my GTT in August, I had to have something called Polycal. It was vile. Much worse than lucozade. And to add insult to injury, I had to buy it myself!!!!

That said, YANBU, I struggled to consume anything early in the morning through my whole pregnancy and sugary things were the worst!!

Hope it comes back negative!

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 28/01/2014 08:26

well it's 410ml exactly which fills up a pint glass. How does it work with water?!

OP posts:
callamia · 28/01/2014 08:27

I WISH I'd had lucozade.
At 7am, I'd get a cup of illuminous yellow lemon stuff, that looked and tasted like neat radioactive lemon squash? Lucinda's would have been a pleasure Wink. And I did it three times.

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 28/01/2014 08:28

I've called to cancel the test. :( second time. I'm just sicking it up, don't suppose it would be accurate. I've had the test with the first 2 and was always negative. Do they not test everyone? It might because I am over weight I have to be checked.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 28/01/2014 08:29

Are you sure you have to drink a whole pint? I was told 300ml so just over half a pint

phantomhairpuller · 28/01/2014 08:30

No not everyone gets the test. At least bit round here they don't. It's only people who are overweight (like me!) or have diabetes in the family.

Lucozade sounds lovely compared to the vile stuff I had to drink Hmm

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 28/01/2014 08:32

yes, definitly 410, it looks like it depends on your area how much and what they make you drink... Hmm

I remember being given something fairly rank the first time that wasn't lucozade.. but not nearly as much as a pint.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 28/01/2014 08:33

Apparently it's standard with my midwife group to check everyone regardless between 28-32 weeks. With my first DC I rescheduled for afternoon appointment as found it easier to keep the drink down, could you maybe speak to your midwife?

Mine says you fast for an hour, drink the stuff, fast for another hour then test. So it doesn't necessarily have to be done early morning.

ilikebaking · 28/01/2014 08:34

I never had the test, thank god, or so I thought, but then DS was born via EMCS at 11.2lb and all the staff went mental telling me I must have had GD and why didn't I have the test.
I wish I had had the test now, vileness and all. Recovering from an EMCS must be much worse than the test!

isisisis · 28/01/2014 08:34

YABU. I had horrid horrid super sugar cola - foul foul foul. And hyperemesis. I would of killed for your lucazade!
The only way I got through was by making friends with the women sat next to me. And talking to her. Non stop. For 2 hours. Feel quite sorry for her now I think about it. Hope you manage to keep it down. X

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 28/01/2014 08:37

that sounds horrible ilikebaking but some people do just have giant babies..and they don't automatically do csecs anyway for gd. They should have had an idea you were measuring huge large I'd have thought?

TinyTear · 28/01/2014 08:37

Lucozade is lovely and I had two plastic cups, but they told me i could sip it over a while, didn't have to down it

i've been told that in some areas it is something like warm cum

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 28/01/2014 08:41

Where I am they check everyone over the age of 35.

fryingpantoface · 28/01/2014 08:42

I had the lucozade. It was just a 500ml bottle, but i had to fast for 12 hours, then drink it in 15 mins, then sit for two hours before having my bloods retaken. It wasn't fun!

i had to take it because my father had diabetes.

FootieOnTheTelly · 28/01/2014 08:45

When I lived in Canada they summoned about 50 women into the hospital at the same time and gave all of us a pint of disgusting drink. I can't remember what it was but it was vile. I suddenly realised that if I drank it quickly I would be first in the queue for the next stage so I glugged it down in one. Envy It worked and I was first to leave, other people were still trying to drink it after half an hour or so.

However, I still remember how disgusting it was and it was years and years ago.

So, OP, YANBU

DelightedIAm · 28/01/2014 08:52

Oh the area you live in is unreasonable to make you drink that much, I don't understand why you cancelled at the last moment someone else could have had your appointment if you cancelled it yesterday for that you are being unreasonable. I also had cup of illuminous yellow lemon stuff, that looked and tasted like neat radioactive lemon squash each time I had GTT, and always I come up not diabetic.

PorkPieandPickle · 28/01/2014 09:02

Delighted she said she cancelled it because she was sick.

YANBU, I had to have this it is a form of torture I'm sure!!

I had 10 mins to drink it, not sure how much in volume, is guess just under a pint. Following a 12 hour starvation. I was then told i couldn't drink anything following the locozade for 2 hours. Then when I went in for the second blood test I was reprimanded for being dehydrated and told to drink water!! Hmm
