To ask which stainless steel kettle i should get....

My Tefal one finally died after six years. Sad

I am searching high and low for one that has as little plastic as possible as the plastic bit on mine basically 'crumbled' off this morning making me think that the plastic has been eroding (right word?) for some time, possibly seeping into my myriad cups of tea Hmm.

So, although not a very exciting or even legitimate aibu, which (stainless steel) kettle should I buy?

I'd get a hob top kettle, I've never ever found it a problem no longer having a seperate jug kettle, and the worktop is less cluttered Grin

PedlarsSpanner · 26/01/2014 17:24

a fast boil one

brand not imp unless you have an all-dualit panoply of kit

Tinytv · 26/01/2014 17:26

Yes, I looked into it earlier researched on old mn threads but the consensus seemed that they are not worth it, I.e. Take forever to heat up, you need to stay near etc.

A hob kettle does appeal as there is less stuff on the kitchen work top but not sure how practical it would be. Which hob one did you have in mind random?

Whichever one is half price or less in the sales!

RandomMess · 26/01/2014 17:34

Oh I just got a cheap one that is magnetic and whistles as have an induction hob!

Marylou2 · 26/01/2014 17:37

I have a Philips one. It is fab! Have had some really expensive ones on the past, Siemens, Magimix etc but this one is much better and less expensive
Looks good too.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 26/01/2014 17:38

I have a stove top one (the plan was to heat it on top of the log burner). It whistles when it's ready so I don't watch it, it takes a while to heat up though.

Morphy Richards make some good kettles. Stainless steel ones are a PITA though as they show up any marks so you're forever cleaning the fucker.

Damnautocorrect · 26/01/2014 17:40

Don't go shiny it will be a pain with water marks

ShoeWhore · 26/01/2014 17:42

We ended up with this one - the wholly stainless steel ones didn't seem very attractive when I was looking.

My sister's stove top one takes forever and you have to run to turn it off. It's not very practical ime.

jacks365 · 26/01/2014 17:43

I use a stove top one but I have a really fast gas ring that I bring it to the boil on.

Waltonswatcher1 · 26/01/2014 19:10

Dualit- they are gorgeous , get the matching toaster. They are the flashiest things I own!

Tinytv · 26/01/2014 19:45

may which Philips one, can you link? I have read mixed reviews about Philips kettles.

shoehore, (like the name Grin) I really like the look of that one but again reviews are v mixed. So I guess you have had no issues with it so far?

I bought an emergency 'will do for now' Cookworks' stainless steel one from Argos as they didn't have the one I really wanted in stock. It was quite impressive for the price and I still haven't replaced it. It's as good as the one I had before which cost five times as much.

ShoeWhore · 26/01/2014 21:11

Why thank you Tiny Blush

No we've not had any problems with this kettle although we do live in an area with fairly soft water so to be fair wouldn't get limescale issues.

In fact I liked it so much that when the first one died after several years of faithful service when dh overfilled it and I suspect it flooded everywhere and shorted I got the same one again. Have had the replacement for over a year and it's great.

Pipbin · 26/01/2014 22:49

I have this kettle and it is brilliant: www.johnlewis.com/panasonic-nc-dk1-kettle/p231762576?navAction=jump

It boils quickly and because it is a bit like a thermos inside it keeps the water hot for ages.

Pipbin · 26/01/2014 22:53

And many years ago I used to sell kettles. Dualit and Magimix ones are not made by Dualit or Magimix but by some third party.

Waltonswatcher1 · 27/01/2014 03:12

No idea how to link sorry..
Stop upsetting my kettle Dualit haters!
Along with my Dyson it's my prized possession . Means more to me than Dh.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/01/2014 03:53

I have a Tiger water boiler. Like this. Really good so far.

Tinytv · 27/01/2014 23:05
