To think this yoga teacher is taking the piss?

Class starts 15 minutes late because he's faffing giving people back their change. Rushes through everything so no time to properly get 'into' each pose. Weird ways of describing poses that make NO sense e.g. for the warrior ones you are 'on a surfboard' 'feeling the waves' - what?! Regularly tells us that he can't do some of the weirder poses but describes them verbally to the class instead of demonstrating. Same playlist same routine each class with no variation. Irritating American accent! And yet the class is always packed I don't get it Hmm. I know I'm BU to keep going but I live in a small place and there are no other convenient classes but I leave each time enraged! WIBU to just buy a DVD and do it at home instead (with the heating on high!)?

YANBU. Get a good dvd (and leave the heating as it is).

YouStayClassySanDiego · 26/01/2014 14:33

Yes stop putting money in his pocket or yoga pants boom boom [ wink]

He sounds like a right plank, get a dvdm good idea.

wobblyweebles · 26/01/2014 16:00

TBH doing yoga at all is pretty irritating. I would just give it up completely.

bumbleymummy · 26/01/2014 16:01

It's probably packed with people like you who are only going because it's the only class available!

appletarts · 26/01/2014 16:05

He's not qualified and is giving you moves to do from a dvd he has. He is not a yoga teacher. Ask to see his qualifications, bet he's got none but maybe 'studied' under a master in India, which reads as went traveling in India and did a 2 day retreat. Bet h'e an estate agent or something.

JiminyCricket · 26/01/2014 16:08

do you have a tablet computer? I have started learning from a yoga app - has some set programmes for beginner/intermediate and advanced, and you can also select poses for your own programmes.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/01/2014 16:10

If you've got a Wii put it on the YouTube channel and do some Tara Stiles videos.

todaysdateis · 26/01/2014 16:11

Sounds a bit like my zumba teacher - always starts about 10 minutes late (because she doesn't turn up on time!!), instead of starting at 6.30 going on to 7.30 she starts at 6.40 and goes onto 7.50, by which time I'm starving and had enough of being out of the house for nearly 12 hours! Walked out at 7.30 last week - wonder if time keeping will be improved this week - probably not!

mistermakersgloopyglue · 26/01/2014 16:12

He can't do some of the poses?! Yes, it seems unlikely he is an actual qualified instructor. I would stop going as we'll if I were you.

I had a similar teacher like this for Zumba, he was total SHIT! He did it with another girl and he would come in all the big man for the warm up, then be totally knackered and need two or three tracks to recover, leaving the other girl to do it, and then the tracks he did do he couldn't remember and would ask us if we could remember and help him! An absolute piss taker he was, I complained to the gym and said they were mugs to be paying him to do the class.

HellonHeels · 26/01/2014 17:11

Plenty of yoga teachers cannot do some poses. My first teacher was great but had arthritis in the hips so some poses weren't available to her.

Can't remember his name but there's a well known teacher who uses a wheelchair.

Of course these examples don't mean this particular teacher isn't taking the piss.

Mia4 · 26/01/2014 17:17

He sounds like he's done a few classes and fancies himself a teacher th. Is he actually accredited in any way? Is he a British wheel yoga teacher?

Get yourself a dvd or better teacher for sure.

FrumiousBandersnatch · 26/01/2014 17:24

YANBU - he sounds incompetent and lazy.

Are you friendly with anyone else in your class? I would suggest getting a group together to find another teacher nearby and approaching them to ask if they'll start a class for you.

LIZS · 26/01/2014 17:27

Vote with your feet. Find another teacher and ask them to set up a class for you and tell others.

LIZS · 26/01/2014 17:28

oh and if he is cutting corners with the session , what about the likes of Public liability insurance and H & S checks.
