Why post that you are name changing, if i could be bothered i'd go and have a look to see who you were if it mattered. why even bother write that you have name changed in the 1st place? i just don't see the need for it Hmm

It's an attempt to stave off the "welcome to mumsnet Hmm" posts

BohemianGirl · 26/01/2014 09:53

The ones that go NC but Pombears, naice ham, bum sex, yoni - yes love all the lurkers read those too

HorsePetal · 26/01/2014 09:54

I think people do it (and then mention that they have) to make the point that they're regulars and not trolls especially on bum sex threads

i rarely post more i'm of a reader but i just don't see the need, even on the posts i've read i've never seen 'welcome to mumsnet' so still don't see the need for it Hmm

even on the posts you've read? Well I must be wrong then :o

Because if it's something remotely contentious in AIBU or relationships, some of us will do a quick look in Advanced Search to see if you're a regular user. If you're not, it indicates potential troll. So the number of useful responses will be less, and the thread may get derailed by troll hunters.

And some of us aren't that careful about hiding their id in general mn use. Advanced search on me would reveal my home town and the business I'm in, and since I've got a vaguely unusual family set-up anyone else from the same town would work out who I am pretty quickly. As a matter of fact several RL mnetting locals already have. So if I wanted to talk about something big and serious, I'd nc.

Topaz25 · 26/01/2014 09:57

I've seen welcome to mumsnet comments. I think people mainly post that they have NC because they tend to be posting about controversial topics so they want people to know they are not a troll. I don't really see the point of NC in the first place when it is so easy to look up though.

pinkoneblueone · 26/01/2014 09:58

lol seems i'm a lurker then more of a lazy lurker cos cba 1/2 the time.

Surely anyone can write all that naice ham/pombears / yoni stuff? And why would being a regular poster validate you anyway? It's effectively saying that new posters are less worthwhile.

Joysmum · 26/01/2014 09:58

How about because they are looking for advice and want anominity from their partner or friends that also use mumsnet?

I fail to see how that's difficult to appreciate?

HorsePetal · 26/01/2014 09:58

You need to venture into some of the more interesting threads then OP - lots of nc there Grin

pinkoneblueone · 26/01/2014 10:02

ok i get it but still i think anyone with 1/2 a brain would just do a search....not me cos i can't be bothered with all that. and no i'm not a troll been on here for years just rarely comment. i have seen the odd welcome to mumsnet post but not enough to make a deal of posting 'NC for this'....ok i think i've discovered really how lazy i actully am :/
