To be so annoyed at BBC Breakfast?

How dare they think they can brainwash viewers into thinking that all is fine and dandy, keeping us from thinking about the real world and how we are royally fucking up other people's lives - the current unfortunates being the Syrian people?

Let's NOT report on Al-Qaedia - cunningly rebranded 'the rebels' by the BBC - destroying the ONLY REMAINING VILLAGE WHERE JESUS' MOTHER-TONGUE IS STILL SPOKEN (for you BBC-liebers out there - it's 'Aramaic').

No, that's not what The People want to hear. Instead, let's inject a bit of culture into our viewers' lives. I'm sure they'd rather discuss the popularity of sunflowers, Van Gogh, the merits of taking one's child out of school during term time and whatnot. You know, real breaking news - as it happens.

I cannot STAND people who look down at me for choosing to watch crappy daytime TV, instead of this so-called 'news'. CBeebies is more fucking educational.

Of course, maybe you don't like viewing grotesque war crimes with your morning coffee. In that case I would have to agree with you all that IABVU indeed.

Sorry if this post is a bit 'heavy'. I just really want to keep up with what's happening in the world and am embarrassed by how thick we look to the rest of the world. I do not appreciate the blatant censorship that is going on here! I have to get off my lazy arse and go and buy the Independent to get some proper insight ffs and even THEY the bastards decided they would stop mentioning Syria so much because they thought people would get bored of hearing about it every day. OHHH MY GOODDD!!! ARGHH!!!

We quite like Abney and Teal.

bisjo · 24/01/2014 23:26

I wouldn't watch BBC Breakfast to get heavyweight news info. It is more like a magazine show.

Blondieminx · 24/01/2014 23:27

YANBU

Don't even get me started on the whitewash of the privatisation of the NHS (Lansley's Health bill)... Angry

I think Cathy Newman off C4 news should be given a breakfast news show a bit like Andrew Marr's but rantier!

Mignonette · 24/01/2014 23:28

I don't watch Breakfast TV. It's the visual equivalent of cheap sugary cereal.

TaraLott · 24/01/2014 23:30

Is it on this late?

RhondaJean · 24/01/2014 23:31

I only watch NBC breakfast cos I have a girl crush on suzannah, and when they do the half hourly local news I can tell I need to get up.

If you really want to try light weight though, put on whatever pish Lorraine is currently presenting on stv.

nirishma · 24/01/2014 23:33

I would rather watch Canimals on repeat than sit through an hr of Breakfast.

Not seen A&T -we're either up too early or too late Shock

gordyslovesheep · 24/01/2014 23:33

YABU to think BBC BREAKFAST represents the news - it's more of a 'news lite/entertainment' prog - try News 24 or R4 or Newsnight or BBC5 etc

nirishma · 24/01/2014 23:46

True, IABU to brand it under news. But BBC news is no better, with that bloody patronizing manner they have of getting there presenters to stand beside a screen which then spells out what they have just said. FFS. And they make Assad out to be a villain when he is the only one who is protecting religious minorities such as Christians from massacre by the glorious Yankee-funded 'rebels' and by making up stories of chemical weapons. I hate our media, I am so ashamed right now. The rest of the world is laughing at us

Jesus: "short Welsh prick"? And Assad is clearly the Great Protector, right......Hmm...sounds like you could do with a bit more of this intelligent news content you claim to be seeking.

StarSwirl92 · 25/01/2014 02:01

Yeah an entire village of people just up and suffocated randomly to inciminate Assad Hmm Perhaps you should find a more reputable news provider if this is what you believe. As for The Great Protector, he is only out to protect his own people, that's just easier if he includes more minorities. He wouldn't hesitate to throw them under the bus along with the rest of his country.

So yes, YABU.

innisglas · 25/01/2014 03:00

The BBC news and current affairs coverage is dreadful. I live in Mexico and listen to Radio 4 on the internet. Recently they had a programme devoted to Mexico, but not any Mexico I recognize, sheer government propaganda. But I wasn't totally surprised, I do not count anything I hear on the BBC is reliable

DrNick · 25/01/2014 04:17

I think your post is a bit cheeky. You just want to talk Syria really. Dressed up as a normal thread. Assad protecting etc

filingdrivesmemad · 25/01/2014 04:39

I agree with OP, BBC Breakfast irritates me with the celebrity news and interviews, and the inane mudslinging of British politicians, it's trivia most of the time, and it doesn't mention much international news at all, I now watch a lot of France 24 and Al Jazeera.

Hoppinggreen · 25/01/2014 08:20

If you want to defend a war criminal who has ordered mass slaughter on his own people then carry on but don't try and dress it up at a criticism f the BBC!!
(Not a supporter of the rebels either by the way)

DoJo · 25/01/2014 08:34

I'm not sure I understand - the 'news' programme you are watching annoys with its lack of serious content, so instead of seeking out a different source of news, you watch 'crappy daytime TV' and then get annoyed by that because you think it makes people look down on you.
None of this makes sense.

softlysoftly · 25/01/2014 08:44

You are merging two totally different points Confused

1 BBC breakfast isn't a news programme really, does it claim to be? I don't think it dyed

2 Assad is a murdering basted. As are the rebels. No one comes out of this pearly white

brettgirl2 · 25/01/2014 08:48

yanbu so many people on mn slag off the daily mail, but imo the bbc are worse, everything is so biased and they are critical of everything. No distinctions between links and causes, truly awful. Plus we have no choice but to pay for it Angry .

Theodorous · 25/01/2014 08:49

I have not encountered any Syrian colleagues in doha who have not lost at least part of their immediate family in the last 12 months. I had the sister of a friend and her daughter staying with me until their visa expired and they went back just to get some certificates so she could practice as a doctor here. They are dead now. I agree but I do not trust the BBC at all to report news but think other channels who don't have a left wing skewed agenda have a responsibility to do so. Except for Lorraine Kelly, can you imagine anything more offensive than her patronising the poor wee Syrians

stickysausages · 25/01/2014 08:55

It's so dumbed down now. If the presenters came in wearing onesies, eating a McDonald's.. I wouldn't be shocked.

innisglas · 25/01/2014 15:13

Theodorous, what a terrible thing. I don't follow the Syrian situation because I wouldn't know what was a trustworthy source of information and as I said previously, I find the BBC is totally skewed on the countries I do know.

However I am surprised that you think the BBC has a left-wing agenda. I always think it has a right-wing agenda, but then really what do left and right mean? More likes it is answering to needs other than giving the news as it should.

itsnotthateasy · 25/01/2014 19:14

Russia Today and even Al Jazera News are often worldwide ..they also show a lot of what the BBC nor SKY would ever show ..

nirishma · 26/01/2014 01:50

Fair comments, it was a bit of a rant to be honest. Russia Today would be more accurate than Al Jazeera which I would liken to Arab BBC ie appalling Yankee arse-licking).

I am not an Assad lover. I am just annoyed at our one way coverage of war crimes and Syria reminds me of Norn Iron in so many ways and I am upset and annoyed about it. Everyone from Norn Iron knows someone who was killed or badly wounded in The Troubles. Like Syrians you have to join a side or leave the country, else you will be kneecapped or your kids will mysteriously disappear (well not a good analogy as sawing innocent people's heads off and uploading videos of it onto youtube seems to be the fashion these days). Before this civil war started in Syria people of many religious denominations lived in harmony with each other. It was the most liberal, beautiful country in Arabia. And yer man Assad was still in power then. And now it is in ruins because the Russians were planning to build a nice big oil pipe to feed into Western Europe and America didn't like that. They knew Israel would back them and they already had control of Iran, but what about neutral Syria?

There were no chemical weapons. Just as there were no weapons of mass destruction. Or angry Catholics waving dangerous objects at the police on Bloody Sunday.

The irony is that there is no oil in Syria!!!

Anyway sorry this topic has completely gone off on a tangent < prepares for mass slating>

OP posts:
DrNick · 26/01/2014 04:57

No chemical weapons. Hmm
