To cancel or change my holiday?

AIBU to cancel or change my holiday in case I bump into a long lost relative who I have recently discovered lives in the reasonably small town that I will be visiting?

Some background so I'm not drip feeding: I have exchanged a few emails with said relative - who I have never actually met. However, I haven't been in contact with them or closer relatives on that side of the family for over a year (more their decision than mine due to other unrelated complications and I have said that I would leave any future contact up to them). I know that the chances of bumping into them and them recognizing me is reasonably remote, but if I did it would be a very uncomfortable.

AIBU to cancel my holiday in case the improbable happens?

So you have never met them but you think relative will recognise you anyway. Unlikely I would have thought.

That's true Chocovore. They have seen a reasonably recent picture but i suppose it's quite difficult to recognize someone from just one photo and I suppose a pair of sunglasses would remove all possible likelihood that I would be recognized.

If it's somewhere you want to go to, and you'll likely lose money cancelling, I'd suggest going as the chances of them actually being in exactly the same place, same time as you and recognising you must be fairly slim.
