To not want to take my pram back?

I'm due in march. I've searched long and hard for a pram which ticks all of my fairly picky boxes. I got a fantastic bargain. With a sale going on, a free car seat and a discount for an old seasons colour, I got the pram carrycot and car seat for less then just the pram in any other colour. Its dirt cheap and on a by now pay later 0% interest thingy.
Anyway. This is third baby so I'm not a starry eyed first timer. Everything else is hand me down or second hand. that is fine.
DP has gone to play pool and one of his team mates has offered him their old pram for free. Hes decided that we should return the new one and take the freebie.
I'm feeling rather upset.
I haven't seen this pram, its not what I picked, and I have saved on everything else. I don't want it!
DP has the arse now.
Apart from anything else, the new pram has been here for 6 weeks and has been opened. I'm fairly certain it's not returnable.

The only reason I would consider it is that the new pram is on finance. If the second hand one works, ticks your boxes and is in good nick, might be worth a look. I had to convince DH not to rely on a second hand one after making him try to lift it with one hand. He is a black belt and goes to the gym every day. He couldn't. I had a 9lb baby and a c-section scar. Still pisses me off.

No yanbu. Tell him it's not returnable if you want to save a row.

Otherwise explain the benefits of the one you have chosen rationally in a way he will understand.

You could just tell him to sod off but that's probably not v reasonable!

I can completely understand wanting something new for new baby and something you have chosen. However I should say I am 35 weeks myself so maybe not looking at it rationally. With pfb I was v funny about having anything second hand or not perfect until after baby was born and then I was glad of all contributions so it may have been hormones.

DH can push the baby in the freebie and you can use the nice new pram. Actually, seriously, tell your DH that you are keeping the new pram as you love it and chose it carefully. Prams are so important when your DCs are little. A bad one is a nightmare.

No YANBU. Most of our baby bits have come second hand from my big baby heavy family. It's really nice to treat yourself to at least one new thing. Keep and enjoy the pram.

Tell your DP you have absolutely no right to return the new one just because he changed his mind and the shop will probably tell you to jog on. Could the freebie be a spare for at grandparents' house?

I'm fairly certain that it is non returnable. Its a credit agreement because the pre payment plan they used to do resulted in too many returns. I'd have done the pre payment plan out of preference.

You say that a team mate has offered it for free. Does his partner know? This sounds like something my DH would do, offer something for free when I had plans for it or wanted to sell it.

My Mum got pissed off when I was pg with DC1 and I refused her 'vair rich' cousins pram. It was the size of a tank and fugly!
Apparently it was the same type Madonna used for Lourdes Hmm and as an 'unmarried teenage mother I should be bloody grateful'.

I let DH get the pram for DC4 free from one of our friends. He could use it fine, but I had such difficulties with it, it actually made me cry. I should have said no and got the one I wanted. So YANBU.

Well I think its probably irrelevant because you probably can't return it after 6 weeks.

I would attempt to return it - ie agree with your DH, but when you can't return it they you can pretend to be disappointed?

YANBU a shiny expensive go anywhere mountain buggy was the one new, full price thing DD1 got.

It was a dream to bush, went smoothly along the canal tow path and DMILs Cornish coast paths. It was very carefully researched and I would not have swapped it for all the free push chairs in China.

Even if people did giggle and call it my baby wheel barrow (it was the only three wheeled buggy in town, DD1 is 15)

We got a free one from my sister. I used it a couple of times, established that the handle was the wrong height and hurt my back, and it wouldn't fit in the car, and it's been taking up space ever since. I got the one I wanted after that and I love it.

Keep the new one for daily use & keep the free pram for travelling. If it gets lost, stolen or damaged whilst en route somewhere then it's no big deal.

My dh did the opposite. I got an adequate pram on freecycle but he wanted new. We choose the new one together and it is fab.

Travelling? Whats that? Confused
Mine is a britax 3 wheeler. I searched long and hard for the right pram, I have very fixed ideas about what I need. Mainly, 3 big wheels which will go off road and a rear facing seat. Also not costing £900!
The pram is a discounted old season colour, the car seat was free and there was 20% off of everything. Including the carrycot the whole loy was less than the pram alone in a current colour. It came to £289.
I have no idea what the freebie is. It could be a Bugaboo chameleon and I still wouldn't want it!

I'm guessing you're the one who's going to be pushing it the most, in which case you get to choose!

We bought a new cot for DD despite having been given one from Dsis's Sil. I just didn't like it. At all.

A pram is an emotional as well as practical purchase and you should keep the one that you chose, bought, and now own. I don't see why you should suddenly be expected to part with it just because of a chance offer from someone whose views and tastes in prams may have nothing in common with yours. If you could afford your pram six weeks ago -and nothing in your financial situation has changed - you can afford it now!

Having said that, if your husband's friend is keen to unload an unwanted pram, and has no-one else to give it to, maybe you should take it if you have the space. It is always useful to have a second pram - I always wished we had one, for walks in the country or through forests, when the wheels invariably got caked with mud and leaves. Or to leave at a grandparent's house, as another poster suggested.

But, whatever you do, do NOT return your new pram!
