To think you can't count "Facebook" as a hobby?

Just that.

I have a look on my newsfeed a couple of times during the day if I'm bored at work. But can't imagine what there is to do there for hours each day.

Do people count it as a hobby? As in they include it in bios or on forms? Really?

Kikithecat · 20/01/2014 19:22

Si is it on peoples' CVs now?

Kikithecat · 20/01/2014 19:22

So not Si!

OPeaches · 20/01/2014 19:22

But I can count Candy Crush as a hobby, right?

Vikki88 · 20/01/2014 19:25

I'm not sure if it counts as a hobby or not? I've never said it was before... but thinking about it now, I suppose it might be?

If watching TV counts as a hobby, then I guess going on Facebook would count to? Confused

Peanate · 20/01/2014 19:25

Well I work with people whose job it is to sit on Facebook all day long - and they get paid really well to do so.

Unless it's in that context it should never go on a CV though....

Kikithecat · 20/01/2014 19:26

Well watching TV's not really a hobby either in my mind - it's usually what you do when you've nothing to do.

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 20/01/2014 19:27

Not so much a hobby, as a way of life, maybe Wink

JeanSeberg · 20/01/2014 19:28

Well I work with people whose job it is to sit on Facebook all day long

Would you be able to tell us what that job is? Just being nosy!

redcaryellowcar · 20/01/2014 19:28

i am not sure i would be tempted to employ someone who had listed it on a cv.

Vikki88 · 20/01/2014 19:30

Peanate Since the Facebook job is taken, is there a job I can apply for where you sit on mumsnet all day long? Grin

Kikithecat · 20/01/2014 19:31

Working for Mumsnet Vikki!

Vikki88 · 20/01/2014 19:42

Of course Kiki! I'll get my CV ready... Wink

ScarletLady02 · 20/01/2014 19:48

I Facebook a lot, but then I have a makeup blog and it's like networking for me. The beauty community on there is HUGE and full of info and opportunity Smile

Joysmum · 20/01/2014 20:00

In which case reading isn't a hobby either.

My Facebook is more for interest groups to do with my hobby when I can't be out doing it. I certainly wouldn't call Facebook a hobby in itself.

theborrower · 20/01/2014 20:54

Who says it's a hobby? If someone put that on their CV under hobbies or interests I'd think that was really lame.

I get to Facebook and tweet for work (marketing) - not all day, mind you!

Mellowandfruitful · 20/01/2014 20:57

It's the new equivalent of people who used to list 'motoring' on their CVs / dating profiles (which I would always take to mean 'drives to work'. Cos if you liked cars you'd say 'cars' or 'restoring cars' or whatever)

Topaz25 · 20/01/2014 21:24

It's not a hobby as such but it is a spare time activity for me. There is a lot to do on Facebook. I use it to keep in touch with old friends, make new friends, network, play games, share photos, catch up on the news, enter competitions and join pages or groups related to my hobbies. I've just started a Theory of Organic gardening course and was pleasantly surprised to find that although I considered myself a novice I knew a bit about a lot of the topics they were discussing, such as GMOs, Monsanto, the badger cull and Neonicotinoid insecticides, due to following relevant pages on Facebook, it really helped break the ice.

I wouldn't put Facebook as an interest on a CV but I might put computers or socialising with friends.

LadyHarrietdeSpook · 20/01/2014 21:28

Mumsnetting's okay as a hobby though.

Ragwort · 20/01/2014 21:29

Lady - I agree with you Grin.

NurseRoscoe · 20/01/2014 21:32

It depends..if it's on a form/CV/bio type thing then it sounds a bit sad however if people want to consider it a hobby in their heads then that's fine!

chrome100 · 20/01/2014 21:39

My job is social media so I get paid to be on fb all day. As a result I never go on it in my leisure time!
