YANBU to have your own view on it but it's a bit of a pointless thread.

YABU to start such a rubbish thread. Hmm

And actually, I think Peter Sellers was a comic genius.

gordyslovesheep · 17/01/2014 19:53

well I love it yanbu in not liking something other people do - I think the Twilight films are turds but I wouldn't start a thread about it - that would be a bit self indulgent

YouTheCat · 17/01/2014 19:54

Agreed about Twilight films, and the books too. Utter bilge, imo. Grin

gordyslovesheep · 17/01/2014 19:55

oh it's you Youthecat - hello Grin

moppymarker · 17/01/2014 19:58

in fact, its so unfunny my dd has just said....Is that one of the hillarious things that happens?

In french accents-
Inspector C- 'Does your dog bite?'
Other man- 'No, my dog does not bite.'
IC- 'I thought you said your dog didn't bite?'
OM- 'Zat is not my dog...'

:o brilliant.

YouTheCat · 17/01/2014 21:04

Waves at Gordy Grin

So far Moppy, you're in a minority of one.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 17/01/2014 21:21

YABU

Sellers was a genius. Who do you think can match him?

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 17/01/2014 21:25

And this

morethanpotatoprints · 17/01/2014 21:32

Sorry OP

Not only a comic genius but a brilliant straight actor too.
There aren't many comic actors who could come anywhere near today.
In fact, nope, can't think of a single one.

You may have a point of critic to say the films haven't dated well, but that would be the whole film and not because of a particular actor.

Come on OP, give us some more, you may have some agree with you on some points.

pointythings · 17/01/2014 21:34

The original Pink Panther films with Peter Sellers are works of towering comic genius. Situation, timing, wording - it's all perfect.

But it isn't the kind of instant gratification stuff you get these days - the classic films take their time to set up a situation, lead you to think you know what is about to happen and then take you there - you see it coming, but it is still funny.

YABVU and are in need of re-education, I'm afraid.

Morgause · 17/01/2014 21:40

Love the Pink Panther films.

Cato! You imbecile, not now Cato!

YouTheCat · 17/01/2014 21:48

'Do you av a license for that minkey?' Grin

Some of the few films that I have genuinely cried laughing at.

He also did a fantastic cameo as a scatty doctor in The Wrong Box. Brilliant.

pointythings · 17/01/2014 21:56

And of course we must not ever forget Dr Strangelove. Watch that and then tell us Peter Sellers was not a genius - in every way.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 17/01/2014 22:03

"Careful you fool! You' ve broken my pointing stick! I have nothing to point with now!"

FreudiansSlipper · 17/01/2014 22:04

I love the Pink Panther films

I also love The Party though it will be considered to be very un pc now

maillotjaune · 17/01/2014 22:06

YABWrong they're brilliant. YANBU to have your own opinion of course still wrong though

Mintyy · 17/01/2014 22:19

"Not now Cato!"

An oft repeated phrase in our household.

Rip Peter Sellers, sadly missed.

TheCunnyFuntIsGettingMarried · 17/01/2014 22:23

This thread appears to have turned into a PeterSlers appreciation thread, not entirely sure that that's what the OP was aiming for...

TheCunnyFuntIsGettingMarried · 17/01/2014 22:24

Whoops, Peter Sellers. Stupid thumbs.

FushandChups · 17/01/2014 22:25

I adore the original Pink Panther films so YABU, I'm afraid...

Peter Sellers was all those things previously mentioned on this thread but was also an incredibly funny physical comedian - his body language alone makes me smile.. and he was sooo good at slapstick.

Agree it's a different, probably gentler era of comedy but no less funny for that!

moppymarker · 17/01/2014 22:29

okay, i get that you all like it.
dh is a fan. he told DD that it would be hillarious.

it wasnt
he fell asleep
we were left watching a film that isnt funny

OP posts:
FreudiansSlipper · 17/01/2014 22:31
