To be really peed off with Charlton Athletic

We travelled all the way from S Yorks to London for the game on Sat and it was cancelled one hour before KO. Away fans were totally not considered here when making this decision. Games like this should be cancelled prior to away fans setting off. We were in a bar near London Bridge when we heard the news and were so disappointed.
BFC have given a complimentary ticket to fans that travelled as a way of saying sorry gor the inconveneince caused. We have season tickets so not much use really apart from giving to mates.
Anyone else affected?

YANBU. Apparently it would have been clear on the Friday that the pitch would not be playable.

vickibee · 16/01/2014 11:17

They played their game on Tuesday night Ok.
I beleive the ref offered an inspection on Friday but was refused. My Beleif is that they have a backlog of fixtures to get through and were desperate for the game to go ahead. We had to pay for rail/ underground travel as well as food and drink and are out of pocket.

Given that it's the referee that makes the call about the state of the pitch YABU to be angry at the club.

vickibee · 16/01/2014 11:28

As said the ref wanted to insoect on Friday and the club insisted on Saturday. The fans are treated like S**t

Hmmm, home game eh? So that was why every street round here was rammed and I couldn't park within half a mile of my own house, and had to trudge back and for with bags of groceries and heavy hungry baby.

I agree with you! They should have cancelled earlier so none of you needed to hang round here getting in my way.

vickibee · 16/01/2014 12:23

I agree Peppinaigro - what a wasted day and it is re-arranged for a tuesday night? Thank goodness I can get my ticket refunded £26.00. We had booked the train back from KX at 7pm and the train company wouldn't let us travel sooner without paying a massive difference. We were kind of stuck in limbo

There were only 470 of us with tickets I think, not that many to fit in London? you could pay on turnstile do some may have gone without a ticket

YABU to support Clowntown in the first place. Go to Selhurst Park and sit in the Players' Lounge.

CrispyFB · 16/01/2014 22:39

Away fans are clearly not considered there at all, judging from all the buses that line the busy road nearby clogging it up, and the takeover of the local retail park car parks (despite the signs) so we can't park all because there is nowhere else for the fans to go.

I lived in the area for nearly 9 years and I hated the fact if we were going out we always had to check if Charlton were playing at home before we left so as to plan appropriately. The club just does not cater to the away fans (or indeed any fans it seems) at all. What you say happened to you does not surprise me in the least Angry

MaidOfStars · 17/01/2014 08:06

You sound like you think you deserve a refund? I think you're dreaming....you little Tyke, you.

The referee (acting in behalf of the FA) called the match off. This decision will have cost Charlton Athletic money too.

tigerdriverII · 17/01/2014 08:11

Utter joke calling it off at that point when away fans have had such a long journey. The problems with their pitch are nothing new. I'm an Oxford fan and our cup game was postponed twice but they did have the grace to give enough notice for people not to travel. Roll on the replay now.

Fleta · 17/01/2014 09:24

It isn't the club's fault at all.

The referee as the representative of the FA has to make the decision.

It is perfectly plausible for a pitch to be unplayable on the Friday and a game go ahead on the Saturday.

Unfortunate but always a risk especially at this time of year.

vickibee · 17/01/2014 16:18

Def deserve a refund £9 for two pints near London bridge. Glad I don't have to pay these prices. And £8 for take away fish and chips! How do you live down there.?
