AIBU to not buy 14 year old new track suit bottoms

After last year he lost his kit four times it cost me so much in the end I just couldn't do it any more I told him any lost of damaged kit would not be replaced until the start of the new year and he has top take care off his stuff

Fast forward to year 9 January he has now lost his tracksuit bottoms and is moaning he is cold I have told him quite firmly
being cold now during PE will remind him to look after his stuff and I am afraid it's shorts until September

Also as a side not now wants a jumper after throwing yes throwing the one I brought him way in cot because he claims he wouldn't need it

At year 9 he's waaaay old enough to look after his stuff. Stick to your guns. If he wants new stuff he should pay for it himself.

I've just done this with dd's brand new tap shoes. Luckily for her there is a second hand shop at her dance school so she can get them from there for a few £. She's 10 by the way and yr5. The pair she lost cost about £23 and she'd only had them three weeks!

Nope not unreasonable at all. I favour that type of approach with my boys. They now look after their stuff a lot better than they used to!

Does he get pocket money? I'd make him save up and buy his own. As for throwing away his jumper? I'd have been furious!

Thank god thought I was in for a flaming

I just had enough he seems. To think I have a ATM in my bum hole

DD has a rule that if it wears out we will replace it. If she loses it or breaks it then she replaces it. Doesn't really work without pocket money though. Are there any chores which could earn some cash?

In the absence of pocket money, ground him and lots of chores to pay for new ones. Then buy cheap ones to tide him over.
