to think my doctor was wrong?

About a month ago Dd had some little pin ulcers on the tip of her tongue and then over about a period of about a week got some more small ulcers in her mouth.
About a week later I got them, and then so dud Dh..
Doc said it was bacterial and gave us all anti bs..
So a month later after having a sore mouth we've still got them.
But the weirdest thing is I can go all day with no pain, no ulcers and then at night after eating a few little pin ulcers will cone up on the tip of my tongue or the sides of my tongue are sore. Dd has the same symptoms...
Going back to gp tomorrow but don't know what he will say as there aren't really any symptoms to show some of the time.
Very strange one..

Doctors are human and they can certainly be wrong.

The upside (for them) is that they usually get to bury their most serious mistakes.

Keep going back until the problem is sorted.

ditsydoll · 15/01/2014 22:44

I'm going to go back tomorrow but there's not really any symptoms that are very visable, maybe a little dot of an ulcer/swollen taste bud but my tongue is so sore. Never had anything like it!

try corsyl (sp?) mouthwash I had something like that once and was given by gp worked a treat

YouTheCat · 15/01/2014 23:04

Oral thrush?

Katz · 15/01/2014 23:05

I'd be tempted to talk to your dentist not a GP, they tend to know more about mouths and mouth conditions. Worth a go and if it needs a prescription they can write them too.

ditsydoll · 15/01/2014 23:20

Never thought about going to dentist!
Iv had us having everything from hand foot and mouth to gingivostomatitis but nothing seems to fit..
Iv had good and bad days with it on and off for about a month and Dd has had it for the week, then gone for a while and now new ulcers.
Im normally great at Dr Google but this one even has him confused!

I get this, I had it for years and years and went to the doctors a few times, various treatments and options never worked. Then last year I suddenly realised that I only ever got the ulcers with a certain brand of toothpaste. Such a simple solution after so much tongue related pain for so long! I stick to the baking soda toothpastes and never have a problem but if I have to use regular for any reason within 24 hours the problem comes straight back. Don't suppose you changed the family toothpaste brand or anything like that?

ditsydoll · 15/01/2014 23:46

No zgaze not changed toothpaste, Dd is only 5 so she just has her own little toothpaste, and Dh and I use different ones and we all have a sore mouth.
MIL also has a sore mouth but could be a coinsidence?

It might be an allergy to pectin in raw fruits and vegetables? I can't eat apples, even if washed, raw as it gives me very small ulcers on my tongue and makes my mouth and gums itch. It may not be that but a possibility?

ddubsgirl · 16/01/2014 00:00

could be viral or if you have all shared cups/glasses this is how I got mine my sil bf had it and used a cup he had used without realising and caught it :( try the mouthwash for few days I think I had to use it 3 times a day but check with gp it was thrush but like you I had ulcers and small blisters rather than the normal white coating on the tongue

ditsydoll · 16/01/2014 00:10

Ddubsgirl did you not get any white coating with the thrush?
I had thought thrush because it came on Dd after a strong course of anti bs for a bad bout of tonsilitis but doc said thrush gives tongue a thick yellow coat..

Could be scantilymad but would be strange for us to all be having same problem.. I'm hoping doc will have some idea tomorrow

It can be very difficult to diagnose certain illnesses/conditions and if in doubt, they will go for what is the most likely. If the treatment for that doesn't succeed they will then eliminate that and move on with a new treatment for the next likely suspect.

ddubsgirl · 16/01/2014 00:30

antibiotics can cause thrush but no I didnt have any coating which is why it never crossed my mind and in end pain got bad plus I was pregnant with my twins I went to gp and she gave me the mouthwash tastes à wful but it did help and after few days cleared up

ditsydoll · 16/01/2014 00:32

I might ask gp to check for thrush, will he just take a swab?

OP posts:
differentnameforthis · 16/01/2014 06:55

but doc said thrush gives tongue a thick yellow coat.. I had oral thrush, but only 3 or 4 patches. No yellow coat on tongue. I also felt flu like symptoms with it

Bootoyou2 · 16/01/2014 06:57

I had this and it was hand foot and mouth virus

SabraCadabra · 16/01/2014 07:00

Do you eat pineapple? Me and DP had very sore tongues after eating fresh pineapple, probably no help sorry.

thedogwakesuptoodamnearly · 16/01/2014 07:05

What zgate said....I had this, couldn't figure out what was going on until I realied I'd changed toothpaste. Is there anything new that you're all using?

Wabbitty · 16/01/2014 07:22

Aphthous ulcers more specifically of the herpetiform type.

ditsydoll · 16/01/2014 07:27

Canteat pineapple, funnily enough itit's the only thing I'm allergic to! Not changed anything so many HF&M or thrush...

Go to the dentist... they're trained in mouths. Sounds irritating whatever it is.

ENormaSnob · 16/01/2014 08:10

I had this before xmas.

Put it down to a virus.

Lasted about 3/4 weeks.
