Dh works in a factory and recently they have decided to change the hours. Dh is now facing drop in wages. Because he has worked at the factory for years and done a lot of inhouse training and he works a night shift dh is on quite a high rate of pay for a factory. But with these changes he is not sure what hours he will be working and the whether he will even get all the money for being fully skilled. They are also making some people redundant. I am only working pt at present and have just returned to work after being off sick. If dh wages are cut it will make things difficult and I can't be sure of getting a job with more hours.
They still haven't confirmed exactly what is happening either so all the workers are worried about money and it is a difficult time. I feel really Angry they have done things this way.

Is your H a member of a union? If he is, he should talk to the union. If not, maybe a chat with the CAB to make sure that the employer is not breaking the law WRT changing the terms of the employment contract.

No he is not in a union, there is no-one in the factory in a union. The vast majority are immigrant workers. I believe they probably are doing it all by the book, but as they have not confirmed exactly what is happening we have to wait and see.

Yep definitely go to ACAS, they are brilliant. They wont be able to tell you much now, but they will be able to get the details of his employment, contract etc and tell you what his rights are.

Bogeyface · 14/01/2014 01:04

Sorry I mean, they wont be able to tell you much about what will happen as his employers are still messing around, but they will be able to advise you on his rights based on the info you give them.

I have pmd you. I hope he wil be able to get some clarification on his hours soon. They can't implement a major change like this without prior consultation with everybody involved.
