To hate scum burglars

I live in England, but return to glasgow once a fortnight to visit my daughter. As it is I am selling my flat, so there is only the basics in it, nothing of any value and only the furniture...the flat will go on sale in spring...

So last night return home to the glasgow flat to find a note from the police and damage to the door...so I phone the police and they inform me that the house had been secured by them.

The burglars had burst my door, at the door frame, and 5 of the other 8 flats in my block, and they had ripped my naice flat screen telly off the wall.

Thankfully there was no vandalism, no malicious damage, and not worth claiming insurance, but why is there no real punishment....

Just a rant...........but was a real hassle

Yup agree. Cried on and off for days after broken into. And they took my camera with irreplaceable photos. Bleegh.

Thatisall · 12/01/2014 19:24

Scumbags indeed.

comedycentral · 12/01/2014 19:29

Bloody scumbags. I hope you are OK.

Nancy66 · 12/01/2014 19:29

I can't remember what the stat is but most burglaries can pretty much be put down to drugs

billyokey · 12/01/2014 20:49

Not quite the same but the windows on my car were smashed last night and everything in the glovebox stolen. Brand new car and now it feels tainted, and no one will ever be punished. i feel your pain OP

Our church was burgled recently. I thought, what sort of low life robs a church. But it's just stuff to them. And better a church than someone's home I suppose.

my greatest worry is coming home and being burgled, not the things that are taken, those are replaceable, its the feeling that someone else has been in your own house, that safety goes.

luckily, my area is very good but that doesn't make it immune- a lady had posted on one of the selling sites on fb how she was infuriated as burglars had broken into her friends home, and upon her friend returning, and seeing what had happened, the poor lady had a heart attack, and was admitted in hospital

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 12/01/2014 21:57

There was a story in our local paper yesterday about a primary school receiption classroom being vandalised and burgled. What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Changebagsandgladrags · 12/01/2014 22:23

I was burgled as a student and have never really got over it. Everytime I go out I leave all the lights on, and a radio. I get stressed if the DC try to run in before I've looked to see if the place looks OK.

CromeYellow · 12/01/2014 22:38

Yanbu. It infuriates me that scumbags like that are allowed to do it again and again because there is no real punishment. They do it because they can, they know that the worst to happen if caught will be a light slap on the wrist. If society cared about the victims of crime, they'd have proper punishments for the perpetrators. Severe enough for them to never want to think of robbing people again, let alone actually having the confidence to do it.

OldDaddy · 13/01/2014 09:34

CromeYellow is right - I'm sick of seeing reports where a burglar is in court charged with a burglary and asks for 10 other offences to be taken into consideration (while being on a supervision order). They then get a fine and a new supervision order. It's a fuc*ing joke the justice system today. We need to see more burglars getting blasted with shotguns.
