AIBU to think HMRC Should Be Able To Sort This Out Quicker

HMRC sent a letter to the wrong address and suspended my tax credits claim, without telling me. I only realized when the payment didn't appear as usual and called them. It's now been almost a week since my first call and they change still hasn't gone through the system. I'm really annoyed that this is THEIR mistake but I have to suffer for it.

I've been left without the child tax credits and they don't know when it'll get sorted. Luckily I have some savings to last us out the month but AIBU to think that they should be able to at least give me a timeframe for how long it'll take to update the system?

I never understood why Gordon Brown decided HMRC... a tax collecting organisation very good at taking money off people... was an appropriate choice for giving money out. Busy time of year for them so best to keep calling the helpline for updates.

I've rung them again today and their still saying they can't tell me anything. Really frustrated because their mistake means money is tight until the system sorts itself out.

Gosh how frustrating

Have you notified then in writing?

I haven't written to them, I didn't think of doing that. What would you suggest?

Dear Tax Credits Folk

Further to my phone call of xx yy zz and subsequent phone call of aa bb cc please emend your records to show my correct address, 77 blah blah street etc. I enclose a copy of two paid bills sent to this address as proof.

I need confirmation of when my claim will be reinstated and at what rate and how arrears will be paid to me.

Thank you
