To bite my nails. I mean I am two, if I want to bite my nails until they bleed it is my decision! She has put plasters on the bloody ones and micropore on the others. I can't get to them. Can she do this?!

Am I too young for childline?

I think she needs to be wondering why a little child your age is hurting herself so much.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 05/01/2014 13:35

LTB. She obviously doesn't understand you and you will never reach an agreement about this. Definitely call Childline.

Mummy is not sure, she asked the health visitor and she wasn't much help. The making them bleed does not happen often. Maybe because granny died in April. Mummy would appreciate help in getting me to stop please

Bitter Apple spray meant to stop pets chewing safe non- toxic works on children too - only I didn't tell you that.

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 05/01/2014 13:39

Oo. I would say that the bleeding is purely accidental because when you bite your nails, sometimes they tear, and the tear goes down into the quick but you probably didn't mean for that to happen cos it hurts. If ALL your fingernails bled, then you have obviously decided you quite like it hurting (which would definitely be more of a worry); but if it's only occasional then I'd go with accidental.

How to stop - well there are disgusting things your Mummy can paint onto fingernails to try and dissuade yourself from chewing on them, but you'd need to get your mummy to check the age range on the bottle.

Other than that, enforced mitten wearing?

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 05/01/2014 13:40

Bugger, didn't mean to leave that "yourself" in there after I changed the former bit from "you can paint" to "your mummy can paint". I know none of you care, but I do. Blush

Bookaholic · 05/01/2014 13:47

My mum painted my nails a pretty colour when I was little, I liked admiring the pretty colours so much I stopped biting them. Perhaps your mum could do some colours for you that you like?

ebwy · 05/01/2014 13:52

my mammy tried the glitter nail polish on me when I was about 6... I'm 39 and still a nail biter.

monkeysox · 05/01/2014 13:57

Make sure your mummy gets a non toxic one then, just in case it doesn't stop you...

RedToothBrush · 05/01/2014 14:41

Defy her. Grow up and bite them as an adult. That'll teach her.

Unfortunately that's what I did!

GlitzAndGiggles · 05/01/2014 14:51

My mummy cuts my nails but sometimes she misses a little corner so I rip it then the bitch tells me to stop picking! Let's call childline they'll make them see that biting and ripping is perfectly fine!

28 year old nail biter who also occasional makes my cuticles bleed.

Tell your mummy not to worry as long as you're happy, healthy and not tearing your little fingernails off all together

TwatWeevil · 05/01/2014 20:13

My Mummy has these clever clippy things that clip little bits off cuticles. Now if I have a rough bit and want to pick it, I ask Mummy to clip it off for me instead, so it doesn't bleed. I have a box of plasters all of my very own (with princesses on) in case I do pick them and they bleed.

I do still sometimes pick them, even though at 5yo I am quite a big girl and should know better. I just get a bit nervous sometimes. Also my Mummy and Daddy are both hardened nail biters, so I am really just copying them. And Grandma. So it's their fault really. Grin

You bite your own nails???? Did you know if you hold your finger out to the annoying fussing woman, she'll gently bite it for you so it doesn't bleed.

then you can jump on her and prize it out of her mouth and enjoy the satisfying crunch of biting it to bits yourself without all the fuss of getting it off in the first place

Make sure when you want it bitten you properly thrust your finger in her eye and shout 'eeerrrrgghhhh'.
