To not let DS1 play with DS2's christmas presents?

DS1 (4) thinks I am. Apparently I'm a horrible poo head.
DS2 is 18 weeks. He got a few vtech toot toot things (garage, airport) for christmas and they're still in their boxes for when he's bigger.
DS1 has been begging to play with them. My opinion is DS2 is the 4th child. He will have lots of hand me downs, it's nice for him to have something new that is just his.
Obviously DS2 will be oblivious to this but I'd know!

Am I being a horrible poo head?

YANBU providing you put the toys out of sight. If you are keeping them until DS2 is older then that shouldn't be a problem. Leaving them in full sight might be a bit mean.

GinSoakedMisery · 03/01/2014 08:57

No you're not, I'd do the same.

olibeansmummy · 03/01/2014 08:57

Yanbu if you're planning to keep them in boxes for now.

ashtrayheart · 03/01/2014 08:58

I would re wrap them put them away and give them to ds2 for next Christmas Grin

TheNightIsDark · 03/01/2014 09:01

Grin Next christmas he has a humongous box of duplo!
I have no problem with him having a lot of hand me downs, sometimes though I think its nice to have new things.

I also know that they are ridiculous presents for a 4 month old. I told people to buy things for throughout the year rather than end up with a million teddies.

Similar situation here, DD1 is 4, DD2 15 weeks. New stuff that she can't use yet just got hidden straight away, so no pestering thankfully. I don't think YABU btw. :)

ShadowFall · 03/01/2014 10:54

YANBU as long as you put the toys out of sight.

TheNightIsDark · 03/01/2014 10:57

It's all hidden now.

DS has never had much interest in cars. I'm guessing he does now because it's new and not his!

Slightly off thread but I've spend this week being a stinkhead. I too have a 4 year old. It's nice to know that this is yet another phase and other parents are on the receiving end of such interesting insults as well.

and no you're not unreasonable to keep some stuff new for DS2. The 4 year old is too old for them anyway, as "they're baby toys"

youarewinning · 03/01/2014 11:15

Yanbu. 4th child or not they are ds2 and he can have them when he is ready.

I'd be tempted to say that (next oldest you have) thinks your a bum head because he/she wants to play with X (a new thing ds1 has). So your going to give it to her!

See how quickly he changes his mind when the shoes on the other foot!

I wouldn't though - I'd do as you did, say no and pack away.

TheNightIsDark · 03/01/2014 11:17

His favourite insult is to call me an eyeball. Random child.

It's good to know INBU or a bum head
