to think the Lonely Goatherd's MIL was really very pushy?

Her crimes:

Forcing her DD onto a feckless goatherd with no thought for their future prospects. What if they run out of goats?
Dressing her DD in a pale pink coat - she might as well just have called her Barbie.
Thinking a "Gleaming Gloat" is an effective means of communication.
Encouraging yodelling.

That's the MIL from hell, just there.

[Grin]
I'm just so happy that this film is on and my kids are not here to interrupt my enjoyment.

Hassled · 01/01/2014 15:46

I'm sat here alone too - for some reason the DSs have removed themselves.

This scene always makes me well up a bit.

Indeed she was, imagine she was your MIL!

I love The sound of music so much. I think 'edelweiss' is amazing but always makes me cry.

kansasmum · 01/01/2014 15:48

My dd, her fiancé and my 6 yr old ds are all snuggled up on the sofa with the puppy watching this! Goatherd bit is dd's and my favourite bit!!
Spent HOURS watching this with dd when she was very ill in hospital aged 10!

Hassled · 01/01/2014 15:50

I spent most of my early child indignant that I wasn't Gretel.

We're watching 'Andy's Wild Fecking Adventures' on CBeebies. DS2 gave up on CBeebies months ago, but he's rediscovered it again this afternoon.

I completely forgot about Sound of Music - meant to record it for me and DD.

SecretNutellaFix · 01/01/2014 15:52

I have always loved the Landler scene.

AtYourCervix · 01/01/2014 15:54

That baroness is a bitch.

Hassled · 01/01/2014 15:57

The baroness is indeed a bitch.

Oh I wanted to be gretal too!
Edelweiss makes me cry too, more so since it was played at my nans funeral.

mrspremise · 01/01/2014 16:00

I want some of that pink lemonade with gin in it Grin

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 01/01/2014 16:01

fucking hell, I think I missed the bitchy baroness when I was younger Shock

saintmerryweather · 01/01/2014 16:06

I agree about the MIL and the baroness.

notnowImreading · 01/01/2014 16:06

I really sympathise with the Baroness. She gets a rough deal, I think.

Hassled · 01/01/2014 16:09

The Captain's pretty fickle too - quite happy to do waltz in the garden with Maria and give her romantic smouldering looks, but then proposes to the Bitch Baroness to save himself the cost of a new nanny. Red flags galore there.

Nasty controlling man. With his whistles and uniforms and leading on 2 women.

Kittensmctavish · 01/01/2014 16:14

Dd(2) and DS (5) watched Mary poppins earlier in the week and are thoroughly confused as to why there is no magic..,

kickassangel · 01/01/2014 16:16

I thought the baroness got a rough deal. She wants to marry as she's getting on a bit, and in spite of looks and money the only man she can find wants her to take care of his kids (including a troubled teen or two) and run the household even though he's thinking about having it away with one of the staff.

Indeed, his behaviour is pretty terrible, and imagine what it would be like to live with him in rl.

Hassled · 01/01/2014 16:19

You make a good point, kickassangel. And Bitch Baroness has unbitched herself with some dignity.

AtYourCervix · 01/01/2014 16:24

I bet he's an animal in bed.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 01/01/2014 16:25

IIRC she's worse in the stage show than in the film; in the film she's relatively sympathetic, given the circumstances that kickassangel outlines.

HaroldTheGoat · 01/01/2014 16:26

Andy's wild adventures. DS has forgotten about it for two whole days but only by watching gruffalos child on a loop.

Love sound of music. Want to train DC with whistle but think might feature on a few threads.

AtYourCervix · 01/01/2014 16:27

Why are only 3 of the girls bridesmaids?

AtYourCervix · 01/01/2014 16:28

And why do the nuns have to watch the wedding in a cage?
