to think we're all going to be mudered?

I'm away for the Christmas period working for the family I Nanny for at the weekend. We are staying in a mansion/log cabin on the top of a mountain - very very secluded.

On the first night, I heard very light knocking in my room. Quite distinctive as knocking - like one of the kids wanted me. But the kids are on the opposite side of the house and there was no one around. This happened twice (early morning) but I was so tired I didn't think much of it.

The next morning it turned out that everyone in the House had heard the three light knocks at least once in the night.

I checked outside all the windows and there were recent animal prints (think Elk and Bear) and human foot prints circling the house. no one in our group had been outside at all and the prints didn't match anyone's shoes.

Second night, three light knocks again in the dead of night. Everyone heard them at different times.

Third night (last night) the knocks happened again and the four year old boy I look after starts talking about the "blood man" that only he can see being in the House Shock he keeps singing songs about the Blood Man.

AIBU in thinking that we're living some crazy horror film?

I was only hoping you were having us on because it is now not sounding funny at all.

I'd be off, pronto. Might not even bother packing clothes.

Objection · 30/12/2013 23:51

Not my family and they don't have that kind of humour I wish they did.

Um, I would be talking to the other adults in the house about locking up securely tonight. Are there bolts on the doors? I would be bricking myself! Sorry.

nonmifairidere · 30/12/2013 23:53

Have you been murdered yet ? And have you worked out whether you are staying in a mansion or a log cabin, or maybe it's a log mansion?

ISawStrattersKissingSantaClaus · 30/12/2013 23:53

Daniel Craig isn't hoping to come to the rescue. He's safely tucked up in his bed, just down the road from me. Mu theory is he moved here because nobody will notice his boyfriend to and fro-ing

That towery bit looks an awful lot like a gallows :(

Oh Oh! I know the answer. Hasn't Colorado just legalized sales of pot? Are you all stoned? (Or is that tomorrow?)

CCTVmum · 30/12/2013 23:55

where is eeryone seeing these foot and hand prints?

BlameItOnTheBogey · 30/12/2013 23:56

(PS on a serious note, i thought those prints looked like fairly normal animal type prints that we usually get around the log cabins we rent in that area.)

Oaks like a reflection of snow

LadyMetroland · 30/12/2013 23:59

Just looked at photos - definitely doesn't look like human footprints so I wouldn't worry. The knocking could easily be a nocturnal animal too. We have weird squirrel-like animals (glis) that live in the eaves and cavity walls of our house and they make a hell of a racket including random tapping. It's probably that.

hopeful

Skiingmaniac · 30/12/2013 23:59

Looks even

CatAmongThePigeons · 30/12/2013 23:59

Maybe the elk antlers were knocking the house when it was licking the walls

Grin wall licking elks, of course! It all makes sense.

manicinsomniac · 31/12/2013 00:01

If you're genuinely freaked out, you should probably stop reading this and watch something light online, this really won't be helping.

The pictures in your profile look to me like what happens when bits of snow melt/things from trees fall into snow or where it melts slightly in random places or has things of different textures/densities underneath the snow. Animal prints at a push but definitely not human.

The noises, in a log cabin in the mountains, could be literally anything. But almost certainly harmless.

The handprint could have come from any member of the family. You said they've been outside in the hot tub. Warm hand on cold window pane. Or it could have been there all day and is showing up because it's now dark outside and bright inside.

Statistically, the chances that there's a murderer up there in the mountains with you is infinitesimally small. And, imo anyway, the chances of a ghost is about as small (and even if there are ghosts it can't actually hurt you).

I can understand why you're scared but a) the tone of this thread is both hysterical and jokey and will make you feel worse and b) the other adults don't seem to be worried and their own children are at stake so I would try to take comfort from that.

ISawStrattersKissingSantaClaus · 31/12/2013 00:03

They look like big cat prints to me. Although, I'm not sure just how comforting that is, being stalked by a mountain lion...

BillyBanter · 31/12/2013 00:03

How deep is the snow? Footprints of any animal larger than a ferret would not leave such a shallow imprint.

The knocking is probably pipes.

BillyBanter · 31/12/2013 00:05

cont'd unless there was hard packed snow with a fresh fall on top, I suppose.

I like the melted bits falling idea.

BillyBanter · 31/12/2013 00:07

Raccoon prints with fresh snow on top?

4.bp.blogspot.com/_TeFgo-nrcy8/TTDulueG9yI/AAAAAAAAAgg/jh26-gCBWY4/s1600/IMG_2589.JPG

If you imagine these prints have then been lightly snowed over then that would not be a bad match for your photo.

Objection · 31/12/2013 00:07

I haven't been able to upload the human ones yet. and trust me; there are both animal and human prints by the window (dotted with the roof drips/snow)

Are you ok op?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/12/2013 00:09

No idea what the footprints are but that's a pretty scary looking ghosty face reflection of the snow in the window Grin
