We are both workaholics in high pressure jobs, so we made sure that we had all of Christmas and New Year off this year (for the first time in about 5 years). Had my children for Christmas - which was great as they both live in another part of the country they left today to spend time with their father. His children spent it with their Mum in Spain and will be back tomorrow. Also had my elderly parents on Christmas Day (who spent the entire time talking about dead relatives who I should remember even though they died 50 years before I was born!) and his parents (who don't like me). Boxing Day we spent with friends of DH who wanted to go for a 5 mile hike even though they know DH has a dodgy ankle after breaking it earlier this year. He's now in pain, cos he's too macho to a) say no, b) ask to stop now and again and c) admit that he's struggling in any way. So he's spent the last couple of days moaning and being grumpy. Had various other family members descend on us over the weekend and tomorrow have the DSc to pick up from the Airport and take them to see their grandparents and have to sit through endless stories (from my PIL) about how wonderful their mother is and how much better a wife she was than I am (luckily my DSc are cool). Then it's the neighbours party on NYE - which will be fun, but a riot and frankly I just want to get back to work for the rest!!!
I've also decided that I prefer the company of my dogs to most other people.
