To pull someone up on lying?

Bit weird, this.

I have two friends with the same name. They don't know one another and it's just a common first name and surname (think Claire smith, only that isn't their name!) One is a childhood friend, the other a friend of a friend.

My brother just joined Facebook. He mistakenly thought 'Claire smith' was the one we both knew from childhood and sent her a friend request. She replied asking who he was: they eventually established it was a misunderstanding and all was fine.

Then there was a status update - 'OMG, I just had a creepy message from someone asking if I went to XX High School and I said no and got torrents of abuse!'

Brother has sent me a screen shot of their conversation. No torrents of abuse whatsoever Hmm just a polite conversation both ways!

U to post a pic of it??

Post the screenshot.

ashtrayheart · 28/12/2013 23:40

Yes post it and watch her delete the whole post and then block you

giraffesCantSledge · 28/12/2013 23:41

Oh people like that wind me up

onedev · 28/12/2013 23:41

Agreed with the poster that said you were too nice - I'd definitely call her on it & post the screen shot.

AdmiralData · 28/12/2013 23:42

Ask her in a very Mumsnetty type way if she knows she is a lying bitch?
Apologies if that seems harsh but I fecking hate liars.

Wintersunsets · 28/12/2013 23:44

She's deleted the post!

You were way too nice, don't say another word, just post the screenshot to her. Don't do any if the passive agressive stuff or try to give her a way out, just post it and let her dig a deeper hole. She could have got your brother into trouble. Imagine if some male friends had gone mad?

JollySantersSelectionBox · 28/12/2013 23:45

I'd just block her now IIWY

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 28/12/2013 23:45

Oh cross posts she's deleted it ha! Ay well I hope she's learnt her lesson.

cerealqueen · 28/12/2013 23:45

Wind her up, say oh dear, it's deformation of character (or libel, not sure which for written word), brother seeking legal advice etc. Unless he retracts.

cerealqueen · 28/12/2013 23:47

She retracts - just seen she deleted the post!!! Really go guns blazing then. Post on her wall and your own. Stupid behaviour.

clara26 · 28/12/2013 23:47

I would definitely defend my brother in that situation. Glad you called her on it, however, you were far more polite than I'd have been.

Jolleigh · 28/12/2013 23:47

I have a cousin who does crap like this on practically a daily basis. She deletes her posts as soon as she's called on them. But then doesn't learn not to do it again for some reason Hmm

waltermittymissus · 28/12/2013 23:47

Has she unfriended you?

If not, post the screenshot! Grin

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 28/12/2013 23:48

I'd post the screenshot on my own fb and tag her in it.

ashtrayheart · 28/12/2013 23:48

I thought she would! Hope she feels embarrassed.

musicismylife · 28/12/2013 23:49

Send her screenshot (in message).

ashtrayheart · 28/12/2013 23:50

If you were feeling confrontational you could post it titled 'torrents of abuse' and tag her Grin

iwasyoungonce · 28/12/2013 23:51

Definitely post the screenshot. What a shit she is.

Wintersunsets · 28/12/2013 23:52

Ashtray I LOVE that! Grin

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 28/12/2013 23:52

Feeling evil. Grin

Post the 'torrents of abuse', tag her and leave it a day and then block the silly cow.

Snowhoho · 28/12/2013 23:53

Well done for pulling her up, so easy for horrible rumours to start especially if she named him.

giraffesCantSledge · 29/12/2013 00:25

Yes yes do that

citruslemon · 29/12/2013 02:22

I don't have a common name but when people mistakenly try to friend me on fb I explain their error and move on. Am sure it's happened to most people at one time. Don't see why she made an issue except that she's a drama queen & attention seeker. Send her screenshots and ask her to tag which word/phrase she deemed to be "torrents of abuse".
