So as not to drip feed- I work for a minor European royal. I have worked all over Christmas, but was looking forward to my day off today. However, he then decided that today was the perfect time for us to deliver food and pine logs to a poor man who lives underneath the mountain, which is a good league hence.

Trouble is the snow was lying roundabout, deep & crisp & even, and the frost was cruel. He still expected me to trudge on through the snow with him, even though at one point I told him I could go no further. He just told me to walk behind him so I would not find it too cold, and he kept going on about how if we bless the poor, we will ourselves find blessing.

Thing is, I don’t get paid double time for working on the feast of Stephen, so I was a tad miffed. On the other hand, he is normally a generous employer, I certainly never want for food or winter fuel.

So- would I BU to tell the good King where to stick his job, or should I just carry on and help support his philanthropy????

Support it

Then shag and marry him

Have you spoken to HR?

Unfortunately LaurieFairyCake, same-sex marriage hasn't been invented yet so your solution won't work.

OP should tell the boss that three other royals are on their way from the East who are much richer than he is and he can stick his job because working for them will be much better. ThePage can help with the gold, frankincense and myrrh, and the climate will be much warmer.

Just make sure you follow in his footsteps and you will receive your reward Smile

puntasticusername · 26/12/2013 20:16

Yeah, LTB.

Then sue him for constructive dismissal.

ThePage · 26/12/2013 20:19

Shag him & Marry him- Nah, I think he is hoping for a Sainthood, so I don't think he is into all that. Just wholesome, charitable acts!

If frostbite is all you have to worry about you don't know how fucking lucky you are.

ThePage · 26/12/2013 21:40

Just think of the children!!

Listen, if you do stick with him just promise one thing. When he gets assassinated by his brother Boleslav the Cruel, don't try to avenge his death. It won't work out well for you:

Um, Thanks for the tip, Shagging! Looks like I do need to get a new job. Do you think I should contact Nigella? I heard she might be in need of a new assistant!

That's a whole different type of snow I believe!

stephenisjustcoming · 26/12/2013 22:38

Apparently, he's really just a Duke. He's only pretending to be a King in the hope of getting a walk-on role in Made in Czechoslovakia. What a climber.

ThePage · 26/12/2013 22:49

Ssh, Stephen, we don't talk about that, we just do good works.

Anyway, I feel better after my little grumble. Back to work tomorrow. The yonder peasant was a bit taken aback to have the Duke King on his doorstep. To hide his embarrassment he started babbling on complaining that St Agnes fountain, which is near his dwelling, was broken and what did he pay his taxes for? The King thanked him for bringing it to his attention and said I would deal with it immediately.

So I am trying to get a plumber out tomorrow. Bless him, he does not realise how hard it will be to get someone reliable out during the Christmas holidays. Ho Hum!
